Totally random question

Post by scotty73 »

Probably the most random these boards have seen.

Bought a big sack of spuds on the weekend and had a Sunday dinner with them and noticed they were really sweet, to the point only the kids eat them mine went in the dog he seemed to like them

Tried them as chips last night you could still taste the sweetness but they were edible so now i have this big ass bag of spuds that i need to find recipies for so how the hell do i get rid of the sweet taste?

See told you it was random. :supafrisk:

Sounds like the starch has turned to sugar, possibly if they were stored in a very cold place the starch breaks down to base sugars.

Perhaps use them for potato pancakes / bread / scones / hash browns?

If they are going green avoid, they are usually a bit toxic but this indicates even more toxins!

Remember Spud Guns in the 70's/80's ? they were great 8) you pressed the gun into the spud and it carved out a potato-based Bullet for you to fire at someone/anything

I don't know what you can do if you don't like these spudies but wigum's reasoning sounds fair.

My first recipe search after wiggie mentioned it was potato pancakes i found a tasty looking one that i think i can make even better by adding garlic.

Spud guns!

Or you could cover them in tin foil and use them as the base for cheese ham and pickle skewer party snacks.

Often wondered about that, hate 'sweet' potatoes, (rest of the family just reckon I'm fussy).

Anyway, what to do with said spuds? - make alcohol. 8)

If it's for a diet try using frylight and add salt, cracked pepper and paprika to the herbs... better than any potato wedges you can buy mate.

Mash with spring onions through = champ.

Why didn't I think of poteen! D'oh!

First distillation is purely for rub, for horses injuries and that.

Second distillation is the hooch, and can be flavoured with brandy balls and that.

So I've heard :supafrisk:

Slimming recipies - I scooped out a spud, frylite'd it, baked the skins, frylited a bit of mince, chopped tomatoes, chillis, kidney beans, put them into the scooped out spuds and had Chilli in potato skins.

Then the insides of the spuds can be kept for a second dish of mash! Though the slimming recipes with the yoghurt through aren't as nice.
