Question about LCD/plasma tv's
Maybe someone can answer this for me! I've got an awesome old surround sound system but can't hook it up to my PS3 as it doesn't have an optical digital input. So I'm wondering, do any of the above tv's come with separate sockets for every channel so I could use interconnects to link it to my system? I'm hoping I would then be able to output the PS3 in 5.1 if the tv is connected in this way.

Re: Question about LCD/plasma tv's
Most Tvs now have optical out from the TV.
Not sure if that helps, but have a look in here.....

Re: Question about LCD/plasma tv's
I had this exact problem - my old Goodmans (shut up, I was poor) TV came with a surround sound system that has RCA jack inputs. The TV got ditched a couple years back for a shiny new LCD TV that doesn't have RCA jack outputs, only optical audio out.
I bought a small box off've eBay that takes an optical audio input and converts it to RCA jack outputs. It worked OK (though the supplied mains adapter was a piece of sh*t and I had to replace it with something else). Can't remember how much it cost. I might still have it somewhere.
The above setup worked until the Goodmans surround sound amp basically exploded. The Goodmans system was built into the subwoofer too. So last year I bought a Samsung surround sound amp and subwoofer, and just re-used the Goodmans satellite and centre speakers. £50 for the amp and £30 for the sub. Job done!

Re: Question about LCD/plasma tv's
I was thinking of getting a good speaker setup, but what about the neighbours?
Highlander, you mentioned before that you live in apartments, do they get irate when you are watching TV and something occurs that is quite bassy (guns, doors, even the BBC News theme is like a disco!)?

They've never complained. The only ones that might notice are the ones immediately below us; the living room is adjacent to the building's exterior wall, so the other rooms in our flat, plus the central stairwell, lie between our next-door (same-level) neighbours and our telly.
If they complain, then I'll turn it down. I never have it up too loud anyway, but it is pretty cool watching 24 and having sound from non-tinny speakers

Re: Question about LCD/plasma tv's
So did the thing you bought off ebay have just a pair of rca's on it or one for every channel?

Re: Question about LCD/plasma tv's
Well I got the system back but I can't find the interconnects (bloody mother lol), can anyone recommend somewhere I can get a set of 6 from? Had a look on Ebay but they weren't exactly cheap and I need a cable for every channel.

Re: Question about LCD/plasma tv's
You just need three RCA-to-RCA pairs - don't look for the individual cables, look for Left/Right pairs (the ones that have a white connector and red connector at each end). Order three of these if you don't have any lying around your house:
