Had my new dials fitted today. Got in thecar, temp showing 90°c, great!
I accelerated down a slip road and it dropped straight to minimum, took it back to the dealer. The service manager asked to test drive it, came back and said the coolant temp sesnor is duff and has no idea why the tech said to replace the dials.
They fitted a new temp sensor and low and behold all the hesitant/laggy/cutting out nonsesne has gone (Which they were planning on replacing the injectors to fix) and the temp gauge stayed at 90 all the way home.
Wouldn't like to be that tech right now

Jesus, that kind of thing annoys me, and proof (yet again) that it's the simple things first you'd think that someone would think "ooh the temp gauge is funny - where's it get the signal from?"..........

Muppets ... Cost them well over a grand too... You didn't get a coolant temp high "stop" warning light like the one i got on the 406 did you?

Nope... total opposite...
I'd been cruising at 70mph for about 20 miles

20 degrees
Ok i'm going to risk going off topic here (again) when you say cruise i assume you mean cruise control so i have a question for anyone who reads this.
Do you find using cruise that your mpg drops? i have a reason which will be explained later when i have more time to talk bullshit n bollox.

No thats the outside tempreture
Look at the two smallest dials, the one on the right is the tempreture. It should be sat dead at 90.
No, I usually drive in 5th at 60mph ~2000rpm. I get better MPG according to the computer than using my foot.

Re: Cruise Control; We naturally 'balance' the throttle with the road ahead but a computer just does its job and that's that - this is not always the most economical way of driving.
You will notice mostly the way the CC starts to launch you up the crest of a blind summit whereas Humans would naturally back off. Same with hilly roads, we'd take a 'run up' to save accelerating all the way up the hill - the computer doesn't know this.

Yes. Perfectly logical that it would - the cc algorithm doesn't adapt to hills as well as the mk1 foot / brain combination.
And another thing - Do you find using cruise that your journey time drops? i have a reason which will be explained later when i have more time to talk bullshit n bollox. :supafrisk [/highjack]
Glad you got it sorted Sam.

Yeah he should have been watching the road, naughty boy
On the cruise control question i saw half an old episode of top gear over the weekend and clarkson was driving a bmw from London to Edingburgh and back trying to do it on a tank of fuel... I'm not sure if he made it back home without the rac but on the way there he started with cruise on and then off and without cruise on it was 6mpg better.
