indicator stalk

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

indicator stalk

Post by bdsnconnolly »

hi everyone, just wonder if anyone can advise. when i make a right turn the indicator works fine, but on completing the turn instead of cancelling out the left indicator comes on. i have found if i return the steering slower than normal it sometimes cancels ok. the tighter the turn the worse the problem seems to be. i will be driving to spain in september and need to get this sorted. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Greetings and welcome.

If you let us know what model and age of 406 you are lucky enough to own, it would help lots as things like the indicator stalk and many other things vary lots from year to year. I and many others put this info on our sigs at the bottom of our posts. Also, the search function on this site works very well indeed, and there are many posts talking about your problem for you to read over your morning coffee.

Hi BDSN,

Welcome to the forum.

I'm guessing you have the facelift model 406. The indicator stalk is part of the COMM2000 unit.
You are describing a common fault these units have. There is someone on ebay that advertises
a repair service for £20.00. Other option is to buy new and replace.

Erm, perhaps he could take a picture of his car, since there is some doubt. All 3 of my 406s have had different indicator stalks, so the detail is important.

hi all, sorry for the delay in replying, i have been away on holiday. my car is an 2004 406 s hdi 90 estate and the indicator stalk has a small button on the end which would normally be the horn i presume. but the horn is on the steering wheel on my car and the button doesn't seem to do anything when i press it. one other thing, the airbag light comes on sometimes then the next time i get in the car it goes off as normal. after driving a few miles it comes on again. the first time it came on was after i had adjusted the seat. so after seeing some of the posts on here i checked the connections under the seat ,wiggled tthem a bit and the light went off. but now the light comes on and dont go off when i wiggle the connections. will this be down to the faulty indicator stalk i wonder. will be much obliged for any advice.
many thanks in advance.

Yep, it's com2000 I'm afraid :( The small button should be automatic lighting, I thought they all had them but...

Not had any problems with the seat connectors myself (yet...) but perhaps they're now so knackered they don't make any connection at all. Perhaps mangle them so they're a tight fit or, failing that, clip the buggers off & solder them.
