Very nice Dai, hope you still pop in here occasionally.

I also hope that whoever gets your 406 looks after it as well as you did, very nice car indeed.

Thanks very much mate, and I'm not going anywhere, this place feels like home!! (They already have a couple of Volvo owners so I'm sure they won't mind - We're taking over!!)

DaiRees wrote:OK dudes, so as I'm sure you guessed this was a bit of a loaded question...

I spotted a car for sale on the interweb which sounded pretty much exactly what I've been looking for for some time. It's almost exactly the spec I'd have chosen if I was speccing it from new, except that I'd have chosen the 2.0l engine instead of the 1600, and I might have chosen a different colour (simply because this one is very close to my Pug and I wouldn't have minded a change). It's an ex-demonstrator so it's fully loaded with every optional extra in the book!! 8)

So I went to see it and took it for a test drive and the engine is fine, OK it's not going to win a race but it doesn't feel slow either, and it's soooo smooth and quiet on the motorway! 62.9 mpg combined (claimed!) and 119g CO2 so £30 a year tax :P :P

Anyway, I've paid my deposit and am now arranging my monies and just waiting to hear when I can go and collect it 8)

OK, bring on the old man jokes!!!!!

I'll be really sad to see the pug go after all this time, but I suppose we all need to move on...  Anyone wanna buy a lovely 406??

Edit: Oh, almost forgot... 35/100 http://www.nextgreencar.com/view-car/30 ... al-6-speed
Nice looking motor that 8)

Ithink you might be lucky too iread somewhere Volvo stopped using renault parts on there new stuff.

I always thought the 406 was a bit of an old fart's car. Until I got one :cheesy:

Lol, cheers Jasper, it's actually a 2012 model, does that make a difference?
Apparently this car will have the new D4 engine (163 BHP) which is very good, oil level situation still applies.

No mate, it's definately the 1.6 DRIVe engine (I know there are both 1560cc and 1590cc units, don't know which one this is), with a 6 speed manual box. Just though your son may know from the age which one it is.

Ah, right, sorry, shows my ignorance of the Volvo range

Is that petrol or diesel?

I'll ask him when he gets home.

113horses?

1.6 DRIVe gains for S80 and V70 upgrade in 2011

The other engine news from Volvo concerns 1.6-litre turbodiesel DRIVe variants of the V70 and S80.

These have been upgraded to the latest version of this engine and efficiency package. That means 113bhp instead of 107bhp, which in combination with a six-speed manual gearbox means a claimed 62.8mpg and 119g/km CO2 for both models.

The 1.6 DRIVe variants also incorporate start-stop technology, low rolling resistance tyres, brake energy regeneration and ‘precise fuel management’. With the addition of the V70 and S80, this takes the total number of Volvos that emit less than 120g/km to seven – the others being the C30, S40, V50, S60 and V60. All use the same 1.6 DRIVe technology.

According to the brochure it's 115 bhp, 199 lbs/ft of torque

It's a 4 cyl 8 valve common rail diesel. 0-62 in 11.5  , top speed 118.
Combined mpg 62.8, urban 53.3, extra urban 68.9. 8)

Even the 52.3 is a good 20mpg more than the 406 is giving you isn't it?

The adverts on ebay say the 1560 is 115bhp but the stats in the listings say 113bhp i cant see any 1590's on there.

Nice new motor you have there Dai, I bet with some careful driving it can easily get to 65-70mpg.
As it has been said be sure to check the oil often and take care of the FAP filter, try not to interrupt regenerations, do some highway sometimes etc...
If they fail the can be a PITA, even if removing them is very easy. :supafrisk:

If it is the same engine the 407 uses take care with the turbo (frequent oil changes - 10k maybe? - and no pushing from cold, let the turbo cool down before turning the car off) as it's a weak spot, being a 2012 model it should have been fixed but better safe than sorry!

EDIT: I see the 1.6 DRIVe fitted in teh v70 isn't the Peugeot DV6, so not rubo problems
