£20.22 each from http://www.gsfcarparts.com who currently have a 10% off special offer running, so £36.40 for both, including tax & free delivery. (About € 44). 8)

I have looked into this carefully and am confident that you, at least, have nothing to worry about.

For maximum range, spring and damper must part company under full compression conditions. Assuming the lighter component, (the spring), is 'launched' and there is no recoil of the damper, (which would reduced initial velocity) and the optimal 45 degree elevation is achieved and it's pointing in the right direction, the ballistic trajectory calculation indicates there is no possibility of acheiving the necessary range, (over 11 miles), to reach Welton Towers.

......at least not without the additional stability imparted by a rifled barrel, or maybe a helical sprin.... Oh.

Doggy you could always do what I usually do.
Get a new strut, spring and top mount and take it to a garage to have them built then just swap the strut over.
Much less dangerous!

I've borrowed a decent Sykes Pickavant set, similar, but more meaty than these, with bigger 'hooks' that fit inside as well as on the end of the spring:

I asked her, puggy. She said, 'No point - by the time the camera's rolling it'll all be over'
....or did you mean something else?

It was installed as a new system in 2003 before the newer regs, the RCD only protects the Power not the Lighting - I think the new ones protect both? my system is weird though with Power being divided into 4 'zones' but like 'cubes' taking in ground and first floor sockets - that may have been the result of some other amendment to the regs at the time :|

Good luck with the proposed spanner-bashing tomorrow anyways, looks like it'll be 25deg C and very humid so you'll sweat your cobblers off too :P

These days most RCD's act as the main switch aswell. Thus all circuits are protected.

Sorted! :cheesy:

I think these have seen better days:

Image

Wasn't too bad a job, though I explored a lot of blind alleys before getting the first strut off. At one point I was so desperate I seriously considered separating the bottom ball joint, (like what Haynes tells you), before giving one more good tug and out it came.

6 hours all told, inluding an oil & filter change, 4000 miles early in preparation for heading for the Med at the end of the month. As always, if I did it again , I'd shave at least 2 hours off.

I'm dead chuffed - it's much nicer to drive, steering's smooth and less prone to wander, front end feels much better damped. Well worth doing if anyone else is wondering. 8)
