Re: cambelt
Time being the operative word, the miles put you close to the upper limit but if it's still the original belt then it's 3 years overduechristine wrote:I have approx 87k on clock so time to change cambelt, right?

What's the name of that program? Location, location, location - where abouts are you?

Re: cambelt
Im in London.
When I got Pug, they told me that it had been done at 56k, but there is no stamp in the service book to say its been done - one of the most important stamps to put in the book i would have thought!! The nice bloke at the local Pug garage who had always serviced Pug before i got it, told me that it was on the computer as having been changed at 56k.
Any idea on price? And on the 406 is it as well to get the water whatnot done at the same time as the cambelt?

Re: cambelt
Any time you change the cambelt, always change the belt tensioner kit, the water pump, and the auxiliary belt at the same time. The aux belt needs to be removed in order to do the cambelt, and if you put the same old belt back on and it snaps, it has the potential to take the cambelt with it.
For the relatively low price of the tensioners, the water pump, and the aux belt, compared to the cost of the damage that any of these components failing would cost, it makes no sense not to change these parts at the same time as the timing belt itself.
Additionally, to change any of these components (except the aux belt) after the timing belt has been changed, the mechanic would need to take the timing belt off again. You'd end up doubling your labour costs at the very least.

Re: cambelt
When i changed mine i bought the kit off ebay for £60 and paid another £60 labor, I'd say that your looking at least £100 labor up in London as i was told £60 was a great price.. I told the mechanic to check the water pump while doing the job because he works for my local motor factor so he could have got one if needed.
if yours was changed 30.000 miles ago the belt should be fine but if it were me I'd change it for piece of mind anyway... In fact I'd have changed it 12 months ago.
