Any xu engine bottom pulley will fit, i chose to opt for a solid one on mine for now it came of an xsi engine
however being a pug its probably parts bin special, whatever they had left in the bin.
i personally dont feel the ned for the dampnered pulley its supposed to help "balance" everything and take out vibrations, in all honesty plenty of cars run without them and are perfectly fine.
mine will be coming of again this week just orderd up the matrial to make my 16v manifolds

No 1 on this block is flywheel side isn't it... according to the workshop mannual CD...????????jameslxdt wrote:niz you can achieve basic crank timing without the marks, get a long thin screwdriver, put it in cylinder no. 1 down the spark plug hole (crankshaft end but you already knew that) rotate engine until it stops rising once it starts to go down stop and rotate back untill it rises and stops and goes down then rotate forwards till it stops, i done this on a 205 gti 1.9, and as far as i know the car is still going
I was going to do that but couldn't be arsed its dark!!!

the cambelts on pugs dont time up with cyl 1 at top stroke though they time up mid stroke, this is to prevent valve> piston contact while rotatng camshaft to get into timing marks on assembly. this method will not there fore work.jameslxdt wrote:shite, yes, flywheel end, i forgot it was french
finding an acurate TDC is actually quite hard on the pug engines took me lots of trying only way i found in the end was by counting flywheel teeth. yes you can use a screw driver but i needed it to be acurate for ignition timing

i thought that was only the 16v xu as they had wet liners?

only 16v xu with wet liners is the 1.9 mi16 alloy block the others are iron block and use the sme block as the 8v's (the 2ls even have the same casting reference of nsj4r this is cast into the block)jameslxdt wrote:i thought that was only the 16v xu as they had wet liners?

thats where it gets confusing, in the guide i posted above in september it tells you how to time it up visually using a bolt on the block as a location vs the keyway on the crank.niz406 wrote:Yeah the |CD states that its mid stroke timing, but is that intake stroke or compression???
