Re: Mondingo petrol

Post by plod »

My V5 turned up for the mondy, so got the transfer in the post this morning, so hopefully in about 2 weeks time, I can get the plate on it, and get sorting the old plodmobile out to either break/sell

Ain't got any money as it all needs to go towards paying for the car, but, the local dealer had an ebay shop and they had genuine tailored floor mats up for £21.23 for 4
Went in and they said £35, and I said ok ill order through ebay, so they honoured the price, as it does say in their ebay terms you can collect but must inform them first.
I also bought a lead to connect my iPhone into the AUX socket, so bye bye to carrying round CD's galore 8)

I must say I do like the clips for securing the mats in place
On the pug I had genuine mats, but was forever having to put it back into place

Got my first problem with it

Heated rear screen stopped working

When I was in the stealers the misses rang me up to say there was a strange noise coming from the dash
When I got in, there was nothing, but i've subsequently noticed the rear screen ain't working
Looks like i've got to pull the stereo out to access :(

If it was a faint clicking noise that was heard,
it might be a iffy Relay,

As far as I know the heated windscreen just goes through the GEM. No relay! Might be better off looking behind the switch.

Mondeo has a heated windscreen.
The rear heated window has failed.

It would be a bit daft not to have a relay on a high current device, even if it is inside this GEM (is that Fraud for BSI?)

You can tell that from a fuse diagram?

No I just know these things
Ford has an electric heated front windscreen! It's awesome!

My MK4 even has a supplementary heater inside too. Instant heat even when it's below zero outside 8)

Plod, don't know if it's any use to you but I have a spare GEM here from a facelift MK3 Mondeo that I was planning to fit in my Focus. If you think that it might be the issue with yours, let me know and I'll post it up! Not a problem :)

And yes the GEM is like a BSi except it's far less complicated! Controls much less, it's generally used for the central locking and for timers for the front and rear heated window etc. Also controls the windscreen wipers, heated windscreen washer nozzles etc.

I had one on my Scrapio. they are pretty neat and it amazes me why they're not fitted on a lot more cars now. Maybe they decided that people didn't want to have to replace a perfectly good windscreen because it only defrosts on the passenger side...

So the Mundeo isn't multiplexed? I thought just about everything was so cursed these days. This GEM just sounds like a development of Fraud's old central timer boxes.

As far as I know Lozz the relay does the front screen, mirrors and heated washer nozzles.

The rear screen is straight off the GEM.

Also the Mondeo isn't multiplex, it just uses the control module for timers etc. Also has a control to make sure stuff like the heated windscreen cannot be activated if they engine isn't switched on. Pretty good actually cause the only programing in it is the key for the central locking, if you need to replace it it is a plug and play job and all you have to do is turn the key in the igniton a few times until you hear a beep and press a button on the key to program it back in again!

I don't know enough about the car yet, but, I read the relay is in the boot, and the fuse is in the engine bay
The misses said the noise was coming from the dash, which where she pointed was close to the switch for the heated rear screen.
Thus I am thinking it could be a problem with the switch itself.
To access the switch i've read you need to take the stereo out, so guess i'll find out.

Not keen on doing anything at mo, as i've picked up an ankle injury, and not sure I fancy messing about outside at present, as just want to rest my ankle as much as possible, which is a slight problem as i've got to drive 46mile round trip to go to the hospital today :(
Really hope it's nothing major ( my ankle that is ) as been one of my big fears this year of picking up an injury and not being able to train.
Been a magical journey this year turning my life around, and at present have lost 8 stone 3lb, and anything to halts progress is going to be a killer for me.
Never want to go back to what I was

I dunno about your mrs but women are notoriously bad and being able to tell where a noise is coming from inside a car, so I'd be looking everywhere else...

That's fantastic! :cheesy: It depends on how you're training but you could concentrate on your upper body/arms until the ankle is sorted. If it's swollen ice is cooool, as well as getting it higher than the rest of you.

Hope it's nothing serious, ankles seem to like picking up sprains for the slightest excuse.
