A little bit of PPi reclaim success

Post by Welly »

Over Christmas I had 2 weeks off work and spent maybe 3 days researching PPi reclaims for myself. I joined the Money Saving Expert forum and read, and read, and read about it.

This is all to do with a Credit Card PPi policy of some 10 years; early January I completed an industry standard 10-page PPi complaint Questionnaire and posted it off recorded delivery.

Yesterday I got home to a letter from MBNA saying they have upheld my complaint and will be sending me a Gregory Peck for £1,068.00  :P :P

Everyone but everyone on the MSE forum tell you to claim for yourself and not to use a broker and sure enough, for me, it has paid - I get every penny back with interest 8)

Just waiting on one more from the then Alliance & Leicester (now Santander) but not holding out much hope on that one, even the MSE forum said not to hold my breath.

Anyhow it'll pay off my Credit Card and possibly cover my 'Summer' tyre set so that's good enough for me

Well done indeed, although I must admit I haven't got the slightest clue of what you are talking about

A quick Google later (no excuse for ignorance in this day and age...) says it's something to do with mis-sold insurance? I think I've been out of the country too long...

A&L is now Banco Santander?

Well done, always worth doing and doing it yourself is best. About a year ago my wife put one in for a £13,500 egg loan we had that started off being something like £7,000 so when you take a new loan out you paid the ppi off the one before starting a fresh loan it was eventually paid off and forgotten about until she put the claim in.

I kept saying it's a waste of time but if you do win it should be at least £1000.... how wrong was i when one lunch time she phoned them to check on the progress and i saw her write this down.

£6798.68p owing..... i almost fooking fainted.
That kind of cash can get you out of a lot of shite believe me 8) .... welly we also tried Santander and got nowhere.

There's people on the MSE forum who've had business loans and such and have had payouts of up to £18K

Steve - if you didn't know, Payment Protection Insurance used to be pushed down your throat up to the point where you'd almost be refused the credit/loan without it - this was mis-selling and was rife in the early/mid 2000's. All the big lenders had a massive bollocking about it and out came the opportunity to ask for the money back. Most PPi policies were not mis-sold but many were 'unsuitable' for the customer who again thought they had to have it.

In recent times, and if you're not asking for a lot of money, most claimants will gain an 'Automatic Payout' where the lender pays all the insurance payments back (plus interest) using a simple rule. Bigger amounts take longer and take some haggling over. Many claimants are making claims to 'see what happens' and still gaining payouts because the lenders are snowed-under with inquiries AND have had bollockings for not dealing with them swiftly  in other words they can't/aren't able to do an investigation so out comes the cheque book :|

Re: Santander - when they took over A&L they destroyed all the archive records going back years so when you approach them you get the old "what?, who are you then?" line. You should then go to the Ombudsman and complain again (6 months +) but it depends whether you think it's worth it, I don't think mine is but then again they haven't responded yet. My only hope is that they know PPi was badly sold and should honor the liabilities of A+L (comes as part of the baggage).

Ahhh, I seem to remember something about that a couple of years back, no wonder there are lots of firms trying to get in a bit of that action  (Un)fortunately I've never had any kind of insurance on my Alliance & Leicestershaire card :frown:

Damn near every phone call I get on my house phone is some bastard trying to get me to claim my compensation for mis-sold PPI. I get these calls EVERY DAY, several times. Sometimes it's real people, sometimes it's auto-diallers with a recorded message.

LEAVE ME THE f*ck ALONE!

Have you sent off a C01 form to stop these sales calls? viewtopic.php?f=5&t=19428&p=193111&hili ... rm#p193111

I get no junk mail and never any sales calls (not one)

Santander took over Alliance and Leicester as a going concern. With that goes the responsibilities. Grossly irresponsible, at the very least, for Santander to destroy archive records. I don't think they have a leg to stand on.

Banks are not obliged to keep records for longer than 6 years now so they don't (I bet they do though :supafrisk: ). If you have original papers when taking out a loan or credit card then it is recommended to send these as evidence as they won't officially have any record themselves.

Fair play for getting some money back, but I'm with Graeme on this PPI thing. They do my head in just as much as the a*seholes that keep calling me about some accident that I've never had (although I do enjoy telling them that the last accident I had was in their office).

Don't understand how I get phone calls advising me that I can claim mis-sold PPI when I haven't borrowed money since 2004. My credit cards get maxxed out every other month, but that's because I pay for literally everything with them (because I get Clubcard points on one & 0.5% cashback on the other) & clear them every month.
