PS3 Yellow Light of Death (YLOD)

Post by leestudd30 »

Recently, my PS3 failed due to the above. Sent it off to a repairer on Ebay and got it back yesterday, cost me about £50. Works fine like it did before but the seller has advised I shouldn't use it for more than a couple of hours at a time in case it still overheats. Now, I've bought a cooling stand with fans in it for the PS3 to sit on which I'm hoping should do the trick, but I've also seen fans for the back, front and sides on ebay, anyone on here ever tried any or experienced the YLOD?

My old ps3 ended up with YLOD
ithought it was knackerd, and then one day ichecked it before it was going in the bin,
and it worked its been fine ever since, igive it a re-boot now and again its easy enough to do,
found out how to do it by a youtube video, mines the old chunky 80gig,
ive been told the new slim lines over heat even worse, so never botherd replacing it,

My 1st ps3 40g fat had its hard drive go at 18 mths old, replaced it with a 120g hard drive. Then at 3 or so yrs old i got the ylod.I fixed it my self & it lasted a few months untill it went again. In the end i fixed it 4 or so times, but the last time i fixed it it lasted 1hr till the ylod again.I replaced it with a 160g slim in oct 2011.The slims run a whole lot cooler.Mine has just done 24hrs non stop on gt 5,& it was as cool as ice afterwards.
I brought these fans for my old ps3,after the 1st ylod.Never used them though. You are welcome to them foc.I live in bristol so if you you want to meet half way you can havethem. They fix to the side,3 fans in the unit, varible speed. :)
