I shall have much more fun/£ with my new 406.

Why don't you get a coupe HDi? They're mostly good value?
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Buy my coupé and spend the vast amount of money you'll save on beer!
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

You might be on to something there. But I just can't live with the long doors on a coupe

I don't believe it: a 2.2 HDi with a 4-clock dash in the lower graduation. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/150936334950
That would be a nice sneaky upgrade, but I must have a 5 clock dash. I'm not particularly fussed for leather, except that the leather door cards really are beautiful.

Just been looking at what you can get for less than a grand, like mjb's for example. One hell of a car for the money. Makes me wonder why you would spend much more on a car?

Looks tidy. Before I had my first exec, I wasn't fussed about leather - now I wouldn't want fabric, but it is personal choice.
I suspect it won't go really cheaply, but I've been wrong too.
If it were me, I would hold out for an exec or SE, maybe a GTX at a push. You don't pay any extra for top spec at this age and it's always going to be easier to start with one with working cruise control. Trouble is lower mileage examples are getting scarce, so choice is becoming more limited. Best bargains tend be ones with FAP issues......

I know. I think it started out at over £5k. I don't understand why it hasn't sold. Unfortunately, I don't like red leather.

I'm currently 3k shy of 200k. I'd like to bail out this year, but there are a few other things (as always) that I need to get taken care of. Plus although I've mentally moved into a 407, I'm still pretty attached to my 406.

I've now started worrying about ride quality. I heard the 407 is harder than the 406.
I've been shaken to bits in a Prius and an SLK this week. Both painfully uncomfortable cars. So anything less comfortable than my 406 won't do.

Sat in a few 407s and I like the seats (they're the same shape as the 406) and the driving position, and they're lovely and light. However, the arm rest is grossly inferior to the 406. Could do with hiring one for a month to see what it's like to live with.

Here's the view from the SLK. Notice the two deserted lanes to the left. Image

I thought big Mercs, BMW's and Audi's had lane sensors that 'bong' madly unless you're in the outside lane regardless of whether there is anything else on the road or not??

If ride comfort & decent armrests are the main priorities, maybe you should keep an eye out for a late old shape C5 Exclusive? Ride comfort is superb, they still come with the armrests attached to the seats & they can also be found with the same 2.2 twin turbo HDi engine.

Usually cheaper than the equivalent 406/407 too. Exclusives don't come along often, but these should give you a fair idea on the price (although the VTX doesn't come with armrests unfortunately):

I hate the look of the previous C5 - what's with those rear lights?

The 2008+ ones are quite nice though. Wouldn't mind one of those either but are still a little expensive.

Good point Stuart. I've seen that silver one before. I don't like the look of the clocks though. Maybe I should spend a bit of time looking at one.

I sat in a new shape C5 and found it very dark and I didn't like the new shape seats, although I prefer the exterior styling to the 407.

Most of us did :)
a few of us had a blast in it too :D
but the DW12 'Convoy to Gaydon', was the bestest bit. :cheesy:

He was on here at new year, oddly enough I was in Poland yesterday and belatedly thought I should have given him a bell.

I believe he even let some of us take it for a drive... or was it just me? :supafrisk:
