Re: I want a 407
Gotcha. How are the radios on these? Can I remove that CD unit thing and replace it with my own aftermarket unit?

Re: I want a 407
Depending onwhats in it to start with and being an exec i would expect it to have a 10 speaker JBL system with amp and cd changer in the boot, which is an excellent setup. Aftermarket Hu's tend to lose the use of the stalk which creates its own issues

Re: I want a 407
Interesting. How can I check whether it's a 10 speaker unit or not. This could be a very good deal indeed. If I get some sort of discount on the list price along with part exchange or a private sale of the 406, it would be a bargain.
Or I might keep the 406 for when the 407 breaks down

Re: I want a 407
last eight numbers of the vin should do it.And your assuming the 407 will break down. Apart from niggles i dont recall any actually breaking down as such. A few 1.6 hdi's have had blown turbo's caused by lack of maintenace but other than that nowt really

Re: I want a 407
yep, ive just pm'd a former member from here (turbolag) on another forum as i think he had a 2.2 petrol and can hopefully give advice on that side. If i'm right and his was the 2.2 he was getting similar mpg to the diesel's without the Dmf/Dpf etc.Captain Jack wrote:And then check on ServiceBox?trem1 wrote:last eight numbers of the vin should do it

Re: I want a 407
I remember turbolag saying the 2.2 petrol had a characteristic "cough" at around 1500 rpm? something to do with the standard fuel map (my Volvo does it too
) I think it's where the fueling is reduced as you coast to a stop. He had his remapped and got rid of this (and gained a few horse powers).
I also remember he said the engine doesn't mind being pootled around and can haul itself around on very little throttle. I like the idea of the double wishbones up front - this must give a nice fell at the wheel. My Honda had Wouble Fish Domes and it felt great.
A word of caution if you're think of trading in the 406 I think you'll be offered a silly amount for it (I was offered £350.00 for mine and that's a like for like comparison to how yours is now) I sold it (to a French man) for £1150.00 or there abouts.

My Brother in law went from a 406 (cloth) to a 407 (full leather). He does a lot of miles and is slightly lacking in height but he maintains that the 407 seats are not a patch on the 406 for comfort. Cant be too bad though as he went on to buy a second one.rwb wrote:Sat in a few 407s and I like the seats (they're the same shape as the 406) and the driving position, and they're lovely and light. However, the arm rest is grossly inferior to the 406. Could do with hiring one for a month to see what it's like to live with.

What's that hole on the left side of the boot? I can see a CD changer there.. but not sure why there would be a hole there....

Re: I want a 407
Yeah, still considering it. Not liking the issues with ball joints, even though they seem easy to change yourself. It's a 9 year old car so will probably need a new cambelt soon. How are the clutches on these?
Also, will probably need to mess about with the radio as I've never been happy with stock stereos - even the JBL one in my 406 was ripped out in favour of an aftermarket system.
Welly, the sig piccy - M25, J16 northbound?

Re: I want a 407
The impression I get is that the 2.0 diesels can eat a clutch in 50k, although I do wonder just how careless the owners of these are.
Otherwise, what did you think of it Captain?

That's odd because I'd swear they're the same shape, plus the 407 gets lumbar support back (I always miss that from my XUD). I Or is it the difference between cloth and leather? I've never had a comfortable long journey on leather seats, but I always put it down to the car (all German). I noticed the seat will go up a long way compared to the 406.benczuk wrote:My Brother in law went from a 406 (cloth) to a 407 (full leather). Re: I want a 407
Rob, I am seeing it tomorrow. Working from home today ... well, looking at 407s!
Yeah, diesels do suffer from pre-mature clutch failures - hopefully the petrol variants last longer. From what I've been reading, the 2.2L is a fairly reliable engine - in fact, I am yet to read of anyone having any sort of issues with it. It's mainly the ball-joints! I am also hoping that with a petrol engine being smaller(?) and the engine bay bigger than the 406(?), it will be easier to work on them. I hate the lack of space in my 406's engine bay and my old Honda Accord with a CDTI engine was a complete no-no. Needed baby hands to work on that ghastly thing.
