I have a question

Post by Sonia406 »

Ok so Miss Pug is currently without MOT, Tax and Insurance. She is SORN and off road.
My question is this: when she passes an MOT can I get ''day insurance'' to buy road tax purely so I can move her to a new location?

I was served notice yesterday on the house, so I now have 2 months to find somewhere else to live - and yes, this means I shall be without internet for a while (me gonna miss you all) and I have to try and find somewhere and try and find the money for removals (as a single mum, that's easier said than done I assure you).
I don't particularly want to hire a trailer and have the inconvenience of asking someone to trailer my princess from here to where ever we end up (possibly not too far away from here, but never know!)

So - with a valid mot certificate and insurance for a day, can I obtain road tax to move her via the road?
If money was no issue I would of course submit myself to a 12 month insurance with who ever worked out cheapest but as a 2.0 16v engine, and only a provisional licence holder - you can instantly see my problem without adding to the fact I am a single mother.

Any advice most appreciated............

I was once refused car tax because my insurance wasn't valid for long enough.
It was mid February, my insurance expired on the 22nd and the tax at the end of the month.
May be worth checking the minimum period for which you need insurance.

It looks like there are a few 'short term' (up to 28 days) policies being advertised, not just day insurance.

If you don't mind me asking: why haven't you passed your test? It is opportunity to practice, or time and cost, or...

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

Cost sadly.......... I knew the routes in Chippenham, failed with only 3 minors and one serious (due to another road user funnily enough!) Been driving 8 long years now but sadly because I moved a year ago I now have to take the test in Oxford, I did go with an instructor to get to know oxford and the routes of the test but then run out of money and couldn't afford to carry on..... If I can be accepted for a loan I want to do a week course and pass within the week, because the waiting periods for the tests are so long I've been waiting so long to pass now I just want to get it over and done with! I am a good driver, I've not once had a crash or scrap or anything. I have good spacial awareness, we lived in a small village where cars were parked both sides of the road..... I had to be good

Anyway, I will check if I can... thanks.....

As above you carnt tax a car with temp-cover,

Not sure why,

I think you can insure a car that isn't going to be used on the road
Making it cheaper and with the option to tax it on the policy,

My grandad did it. On his car, not sure what company it was tho,

Do you know anyone who as got a traders. Policy.

 Yes - someone must have a traders policy...... :)
Ohhhhhhhh - and do you need the V5 to tax it? I've been out of this game too long and forgotten
But then if I tax it as not going to be used on the road I must trailer the princess.......

We need traders policy clearly - anyone?

Thanks

Errmm i don't want to burst your bubble but if you tax that there vehicle then it must also be insured until the tax runs out and you sorn it.

I have a feeling it should be insured anyway ask Dai he had to insure his 406 even when not in use sitting in his garage.

Yep, he's right
Even if not on the road, all cars have to have "continuous insurance"
Govt obviously getting back handed from insurance companies to ring it in as law grrrrr
Not that fecking insurance companies need any more dosh out of us poor motorists :(

This may help make sense of the grey areas:

http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j& ... 8598,d.d2k

Basically:

If it's used on the road or parked on the street it must be taxed & insured

If it's kept off the road (driveway etc) & not taxed (but must be SORNed) it doesn't have to be insured

BUT if it's kept off the road & is taxed, it still needs to be insured

It would be interesting to take the "books" from all of the insurance companies & see what the overall difference is between the money they take in & how much they pay out over the course of 12mths...

Oh for BLEEPS sake

I thought it was fine uninsured etc.
I desperately need the tart to pass her MOT, I have just done insurance quotes and considering I have somehow managed to save myself about £500 - Not sure how or why but hey... It will be tight to insure it but I must as with the estate she can help me move house..... (No dogging for a while eh Doggy?)

So need to MOT, then insure then tax - and while that's kicking off, need to obtain another V5 from DVLA as the tosser won't give me the original

The new insurance law is a load of bollocks. Basically when I bought the Vulva I obviously had to transfer the insurance over from the Pug, I then paid an extra 60 squids to insure the pug for 30 days on a "temporary" policy, hopefully until it was sold. Well we all know what happened next, so by the time the 1 month insurance expired she was locked up in my garage, incapacitated as it were :( . There was no way I was paying another £60 for another month so I didn't renew it, but that meant I had to send the tax back and claim a refund, and SORN it.

Apparently if it's taxed but not insured the bastards can now enter your property, with force if necessary, and remove the vehicle. This even applies if it's broken down in a locked garage and clearly not being used. It's because there are too many wankers driving around without insurance, but once again the honest people suffer because those "in charge" are so incompetent that they are unable to find an effective way to deal with a problem. Bloody idiotic!

Of course, with the pug untaxed and uninsured (and now that MOT has run out too) it's now become a logistical nightmare to get the thing fixed up and sold, hence it's become a garage ornament!

No no, as far as I am aware DVLA HAVE sent me the V5 for the car, problem is I was then living with a bum hole who hid my post and if he does have it - he won't return it.
