2ltr hdi de cat

Post by jhc928 »

Hi all, the cat / front pipe on my hdi 2001 estate broke off today , new pipe looks quite pricey, and i can repair it but was just wondering what happens if i just remove the cat ? would it need re mapping ?

It will run OK and pass the emissions test, but if the box is missing, it may fail the MOT

Really? Didn't realise a missing cat would result in the MOT failure...

putting empty box isnt good idea cuz of creating feedback from exhaust, straight pipe would be better,or am i wrong?

Learn something new every day.........
Surely though it will lead to higher emissions and fail that way?
I am not 100% being female and all............. just thought CAT's lower the emissions, so more at risk of failing on high emissions....... :supafrisk:

Maybe I should just shut up now

My previous 2.2 passed 3 MOT's without the cat (or the FAP).

Something has to be seriously amiss for a HDi that's had regular exercise to fail, IMHO

It's a new thing on the MOt that they should inspect that the canister is still fitted, there would probably be s slight emmission difference but should still massively be within tolerances to pass fine, my 2.2 has both CAT and FAP removed with the canisters still in place, flew through the MOT fine

The presence of a cat is only related to a petrol engined car that has a full emission test.

Doesn't matter on a diesel as the test is only a smoke test.

Mine passed fine as when I asked the mot tester as I know him, he said dont worry its a smoke test
If it fails then I'm supposed to look at the cat but if not......
