BBQ time?

Post by scotty73 »

i know it's baltic outside but my mind is focused on the holiday season (12 months a year for me) :supafrisk: so while I'm waiting for it to warm up so i can clean the 406 i'm looking on the bay for any camping gear we might need and stumble upon this.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Campingaz-Far ... 2327c81e61

Now i have a BBQ set up for camping that runs off a 6kg propane bottle and regulator and one of the ebay adds mentions it will run off a full size bottle but the others that I've read so far only mention Campingaz canisters.
It looks a good piece of kit to me but a lot of money  Anyone used one of these?

IMO, a BBQ isn't a proper BBQ unless apple tree wood is used to power the heat. Cherry tree wood is another good alternative but takes longer to burn to glowing coal.

That propane gas rubbish is for city slickers...

+1 Charcoal all the way, You might as well just grill everything inside if you are using gas.

+2 When I visited some friends from the french 406 site last summer, they used old 'wine trees' in lieu of charcoal - I was suitably impressed.

Tbh I'm only set up with propane because i had to feed loads of kids on a school camping trip last year, i much prefer a camp site that will let you light a wood fire but lots of them wont have none of it.

Sorry to drag up an old thread but i asked the question so now I've bought a replacement i should really answer it.

The one i originally posted had some really bad reviews about the legs breaking so i kinda put it all in the back of my mind until i stumbled upon one of these last week http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Cadac-Safari- ... 2a2bd95216
The reviews i read nobody could find fault with it so has a birthday treat the kids got it for me.

There's two versions a lp (low pressure) and hp (high preasure) lp runs off a regulator and hose attached to a calor gas bottle and the hp runs off small cannisters i got the lp and it came back in time to go away so took it with us.
Saturday morning i cooked bacon, sausage, mushrooms, tomatos, beans and even a fried egg on it... Oh go on then you can have a pic of it.

:cheesy:

Saturday evening i cooked a big rack of ribs, hot n spicy chicken wings and gammon and paella on it.... so far i find it fantastic and really can't fault it you can even buy a roasting pan for it and cook a chicken.
