Just went to book my car in for a new exhaust...

Post by Bailes1992 »

So popped to a local exhaust fabricators to get a price and book my car in. I wanted my cat hollowed out and the back box replaced with a stainless steel unit with a nice inwardly rolled tailpipe. Nothing too fancy, nothing loud but generally tidy the exhaust up. As I don't have a centre box it means the only real restriction would be the back box.

So after I discussed what I wanted and sorted out a price I asked to book it in Tommorow or Friday.
I start work at 7:30 and they don't open till 8:30.
Coversation went like this...

Me: Could I drop the car off early in the morning and put the keys through the letter box
Exhaust fabricators: Well... we don't have a letter box?
Me: Well could I pop in tommorow afternoon with my spare key, then drop the car off early friday morning?
Exhaust Fabricators: Well... Umm... I don't think so. We can't really have a key without a car

:?

Do shops have these idiots hiding in the back rooms waiting for me to attempt to be a customer?
I'm getting 100% sure that nobody wants any business off me? :?

Arrrggrrrhhhh

Ahh well... MOT on Saturday to look forward to now! :|

Good luck for your MOT...

Had to laugh, sorry - it must be highly infuriating to speak to such incompetent buffoons but the way you write it into words, just always makes me smile. :D

Breaking News:

Local lad refused custom throughout Wales

A local man from Merthrpridd, Sam Bules, has been branded "a Customer from Hell" by local traders following the closure of one of Merthrpridd's busiest Halfords depots last month. Sam, 20, has been reported to be "extremely pedantic" and most traders will not accept business from him fearing harsh recrimination if the job is not 100% perfect. We spoke to one Exhaust Fabricator (who did not wish to be named) and he said "Sam was here just the other day wanting a bespoke exhaust system fabricating, normally we'd just get on with it but we felt we'd get into a lot of trouble after hearing what happened to those Halfords lads so we made it sound really difficult to arrange an appointment and he left, hopefully he won't come back".

Fears are growing amongst the area's Petrol Stations too, we spoke to the Manager of Merthr's Shell Station who said "yes we've been warned of this Customer already, he was in here last week asking about 'cetane levels' causing a queue to develop at the Kiosk and we suffered two drive-off's in the confusion"

Welly.

Could be a tad awkward for young Sam, once welly gets properly into his stride and this goes viral....

Maybe we should all try to visit some of these vendors and be really difficult? (In the spirit of 406oc help and support), of course.

Don't do it, there's no benefit and you'll be poisoning the air for everyone.

The cat is there for a reason, you know?

Turbo spools faster and the fuel economy increases! On a diesel anyway.

How's this for a four year old car!

Luckily it was an advisory and put down as "Minor leak of exhaust gasses".

From the cat backwards the exhaust is all one piece too. Going to have a go at changing it myself I think. There is OEM spec two part systems (Centre section and back box) for £100 on ebay.

The exhaust from all the diesel Mondeos, Volvo V70's, S-Max's and whatever else uses the same floor pan are all interchangeable. Ford just changed the tailpipe.
Might see if I can get a twin exhaust from a 2.2 Diesel or even a twin exhaust from a Volvo V70 R-Design and have the tailpipes changed to pointy down ones!

Is that big flakey rusted thing on the right part of your exhaust or a suspension arm?

The last time I tried to fit my own exhaust I couldn't get the car high enough in the air and had to keep adjusting it to stop it bodying all the time (might have just been the wrong box but it sure put me off of DIYing exhausts :( )
