Anyone on here know anything about Micra,s

Mrs has just passed her test, so I've picked up a little 1.3 Micra for her
Was going to get her a 106 or 206 but the Micra ..is a better start off car as per insurance. Me thought' ....
Its a t-reg clean little thing too look at..but I've noticed the inner wheel arches are rusty as feck
One side as had some welding done on it..

Just wondering if anyone s had a Micra with plastic wheel arch/liners..

Thinking of adding a pair if they where ever fitted to them.
It looks like these things are rot box's

Why not the 206 - Surely a 1.1 would be cheap to insure?

There were a few about here, reliable wee cars, i enjoyed driving them but the older ones did rust around the edges.

I'm an old school Nissan mechanic, I've been working on Nissan/Datsun since 1974.

The Micra referred to rots under radiator and under sills on each side near wheel arch (inner and outer), most other places are usually alright.....driver's side is first to go.

Never seen plastic wheel arch replacements.

Anything you need to know mechanically just ask.

the micra ain't abad car to start with
my likes wife likes it ..that's all that matters.
it hasn't cost me megga bucks so if she bends it iwont moan,lol
anything with a lion badge is more expensive too insure than small jap cars.
there was a massive differnce.

I can remember the 2 my mum had broke indicator stalks very easy, the second one got through 3 stalks, perhaps it was how she used it but that problem never happened on any other cars she has drove.

It don't seem to bad for the age of it,
Upto now all I've had too do with it is,
Adjust clutch cable as it was abit tough getting in to reverse
Replaced driver door hinges. ..common Micra fault iirc.

Handbrake is only..58℅ efficient so due for new shoes,

Only give 220 quid for it /trade price, 1mth tax and 10mth m.o.t
So no complaints..
Mrs has got a few quid left out of the car fund so it will be getting 4 new tyres

Never had a broken indicator stalk, had a headlight problem related to the switch, but was easy to repair.

Easy job changing shoes, much easier with hub off, they slide off easy. Remember to slacken cable inside car first.

Speaking of indicator stalks.
My pug 306 seems to be eating them, 3 in the past 7 month,
Always the right hand signal side
Left is fine,

Getting fed up with buying them now, last one was from the main dealers..
Same fault as the d8 406 ..

The Micra as decided it wants to sound like a old Talbot horizon..
Anyone ever fitted a timing chain on one of these things..

That's what I'm thinking it is anyway..

I might just give it a oil change ,see what happens.

Are them engine timed with a chain?

Changing the oil and filter does usually make a difference to the engine noise.....10w40 semi synthetic.

I've done these timing chain jobs before....you can do the job with engine in place, but it's hard work....much easier with engine out which is fairly easy to remove, the front part with the bonnet catch bolts off and radiator just lifts out.

Sump off, timing case off, top inspection plate off, cam cover off.

it was just low on oil. The crankshaft seal had gone
replaced that.. Hopefully it will be ok now.
