Wipers,didn't know they did that.

Post by grasmere59 »

I was up in Derbyshire today in the pouring rain and had the wipers on 1st speed and when I came to a stop in traffic the wipers stopped and then went onto an intermittent mode,i usually have them on auto so have never seen this happen in the 18 months I've had the car :o ,you all probably know this but it was a new one on me :)

I noticed it with my last one, it's a nice touch. Shame it doesn't do something similar on auto.

My 'new' one continues to randomly re-initiate the auto setting if you leave the stalk in that position.
Always thought you had to turn them off / back on to work after the ignition's been off. :?

With mine you have to reinstate the auto function after the ignition has been turned off and on even if the stalk has stayed in the auto position.

I think on auto, my wipers go on to intermittent too when I'm stationary. It is a nice thought...
Also on auto, my wipers occasionally go flat out when slowing down.!!

I sometimes forget mine are on auto until they randomly wipe for no reason..

I also set mine up so when I stick car in reverse the rear wiper starts - nice touch.

Me too - don't offer to do the same for anyone with a semi-mux estate, cos you can't.

I have to say the Auto Wiperage on the 406 is far better than the one's on my Volvo, these ones are dim-witted in the extreme and for some bizarre reason I can adjust the sensitivity of them (consequently they are NEVER right).

I though we concluded that the Auto Wiper function has to turn off each time you park up in case the screen freezes over and the wipers try to do a sweep when you next jump back in.

The Yoyo just has variable speed intermittent, with a dial you turn on the stalk. Yep, just like BL cars did in the 80s

I noticed that on my D9 if I just stop the car briefly the intermittent carries on again when I start it, I don't know how long a period this is though.

Even though like full-mux the reversing lights and rear screen wipe are run through the BSI :? I just checked 'cos I thought maybe it could be done with a couple of relays. :frown:

My mondy has the variable rate, and also when stationary, will reduce the wipers to intermittent, and puts the rear wiper on if the fronts are on and you put it into reverse.

Always thought the ability to change the intervals should of been carried through to more vehicles.
I know when I used to drive an LDV400 you had about 5 positions on the stalk, and that was 20+yr old vehicles.
The one on the Iveco Eurocargo is changeable - very changeable
Anyway, you have to play around a bit with it as doesn't always function correctly.
If you come off 1st speed onto intermittent, and take it off again, and then wait for a duration that you feel is the right time for the next sweep, and put it on again, it 'should' then be intermittent for that duration you waited.
Doesn't always work, but bit of a faff around to get it right, when in reality a dial like on the ldv or like on me mondy would so much less pissing about
