So i bought PP2000/Lexia

Post by jasper5 »

I bought a version of PP, but what a bloody pain trying to install the software

I can install it easily, but getting the updates to install is seriously annoying me, when I get to the second set of updates the software crashes, bloody infuriating

I'll try again later.

Agreed. Consider it a right of passage

I didn't try installing any updates, but I guess you have to. What version are you on, and what version are you trying to update to and what version are you trying to get to?

As Richard says, it's never easy or intuitive.
From what I remember, it all made sense, briefly, just after I got it working. Had to re-install a few months later, took almost as long the second time......
The updates may be a genuine article only thing, requiring a valid licence.

I'll happily give you a hand with it on Saturday, if you haven't 'won'' by then.

I can get as far as version 7.02 then 7.11, but I get error and a box in French saying not been possible to apply update...or something like that.

After the updates are applied i'm supposed to modify a file, but haven't got that far yet....in the instructions it says make new backup of BIN folder after every update, but this is at the end of the instructions and not at the update stage.

At 7.02 the unit appears to be up and running to take to the modify AP file, haven't done that....I think that might be my next step and ignore the later updates.

Right, software installed, can connect to my 407 and get my vin number recognised. I can get a list of installs to my car.

When I select pps I get a screen with PP 2000 on it, when I click on that nothing happens, is that right?

I've not seen an up to date system, but think I read, (on here somewhere), you use PP2000 for relics like mine OR Diagbox for newer stuff. If I understood correctly they were alternatives.

If you're able to communicate with your car, I would expect whatever application let you do that would also do the configuration you need. If PP2000's anything to go by, every car seems to present a different set of options, in a different manner - that's why it took me half an hour to find the right option to access your MFD on Sunday.

Sometimes you just have to try every alleyway, no matter how unpromising, expecting what your looking for to be described in the least obvious, but technically correct manner imaginable.

Gives you a real sense of acheivement to find anything.

Yeah, Diagbox it is :D

The diagbox shows my vin automatically on connection and I can do a global test.

I'm using it on windows 7.

I'm going to the Citroen dealers and my local LUK supplier in the morning, I'll have a play on my van afterwards, should be interesting :D

At first I tried installing Diagbox (it's red and black rather than blue and yellow, right?), but IIRC it just passed you to PP2000 to do the actual work.
Is this how yours is? And if so then what version of PP2000 do you have?
However, I couldn't get PP2000 to work so I un-installed it and installed Planet instead.

As doggy says, the screens are different on every car. The only strategy that works is to go through every screen systematically. For example the options you get under "test all" are different to those you get under "test by ECU", even when you're looking at the same ECU!

I'm struggling with this to get it to work on the older stuff like my van and the 406.

It works on the 407, but apparently I need a 32 bit system to make it work properly, my Windows 7 is 64 bit.

I got mine from easy diagnostics, costs a bit more than some of the ebay prices, but it's a later system which I need for using on all sorts of pugs not just early ones.

I got a discount for mentioning Peugeot forums (thanks trem :D ).

Oohhh that's good!
So have you created a wotsit which allows you to run XP on the side of your Windows 7? Or is it just compatible with Windows 7?
I must admit I really really wants one, but want one to work on this windows 7 machine...
Interesting you're having so many problems, maybe it'd run better on XP?

I can run the Diagbox on windows 7 64 bit, but it will only read my 407, nothing else.

After several failed attempts at trying to get the software to load on windows 7 virtual 32 bit by my son we have decided to use xp on a seperate laptop.

Fortunately for me my son went to visit friends nearby who just happened to have a spare laptop lying around getting in the way so they gave it to me.

My son is going to install xp on it this afternoon when he is free and load the diagbox onto there, hopefully it will work properly then....we'll see.

It's handy having a son who is a Microsoft licenced developer :D

It seems that with this later version of PP2000 (diagbox) you need windows 7, 32 bit or xp.

Jasper, I'm not sure if you can have both PP2000 and Diagbox at the same time.

Maybe get your lad to put a partition on the hard-drive to keep them separate, just in case?
