Lost keys in sea--a tale of woe then happiness..
Not sure if this is the best place to post but guess its kinda electrical so here goes---im only trying to help someone if they are stupid enough to do the same..
Here goes..i,ll try n be quick
On sunday weather being nice here down in the south decided to go 4 a dip in the sea as ya do--not just any sea though Milford shingle bank which as suggests is a shingle bank i.e 10ft out and ya in 10ft of water--(not 4 kids) anyway after refreshing dip went 4 a walk etc etc--not till an hour later released aint got me keys nor did the missus--DOh...
Anyway--after blaming each other for next 10 min as couldnt remember who actually had them decided enoughs enough time was getting on 20.30ish time to go home and get spare(25 miles away)-luckily enough her sis was with us so lift was not a problem--i stayed on beach combing the area as ya do--tide was up though so if they did fall out when i was in water i wasnt gonna find em...
She arrived back around 22.30 i was cold n P..sed off as ya would be and the midgeys were eating me alive..
On Monday missus went to peugeot for new key....what a game that is to get a key--first you buy the blade about a tenner and a transmitter(bout 45 quid)--then you get blade cut (peugeot wont do that)so you have to go to locksmith
then you book it in to get programmed to car--total cost was gonna be over £100..aaarrrggggghhhhh..........
Got in yesterday and said come on lets go and have another look--a few quid diesel aint nuffin compared to new key..walked back to roughly where i went in and couldnt belive my eyes(tide was out but coming in) in a bout a foot of water were my keys with waves crashing all around i decided a booty was acceptable and jumped in...chuffed wasnt the word...
Got back to car and the only thing that didnt work was the remote central locking--key opened in door and started car..
Now comes the advice if ever ya stupid enough to go swimming and leave ya keys in salty water for 24 hours...
I took fob apart and battery and all inside had gone brown so out came the electrical switch cleaner and small scraping screwdriver--basically i cleaned it to death and then got the missus hairdryer on it for 10min--then put in new battery and WOW it worked didnt even need to re-sync...
I attached a pic of keys to show..rust was already starting to form on other keys..
Deano oh yeah--im stuck with the balde now as it got cut but the transmitters going back for refund and i aint paying for new key to be programmed..happy days

I remember years ago you could buy a magnetic 'box' thing that you hid under the car somewhere (and containing a spare key) this story made me think of it but I haven't seen them for years. It was something I used to consider doing but never did for fear of theft.
Thinking about it all motor policies exclude theft with keys (except house theft from) so you'd be knackered either way.
Well done for finding them though, how many times did you check your pockets knowing full well the keys weren't in them?

i checked pockets a few times i can tell ya---all day at work yesterday was p..sed off thinking gonna cost me over £100--was unbelievable when i found em...my missus took the transmitter part back today(the black bit she bought yday) and cancelled the programming which was booked in later in week--Welly wrote:I remember years ago you could buy a magnetic 'box' thing that you hid under the car somewhere (and containing a spare key) this story made me think of it but I haven't seen them for years. I had similar when we had the 405 estate... Parked on Brean beach. For what ever reason the car was locked, we were sat on chairs outside and I took the boys for a little walk through the little rock pools that had formed.
We noticed the tide was coming in so then the question of who had the keys began. Well I didn't have them - nor did my ex husband.
Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit, tides coming in thick and fast now. Lifeguard has approached us and asked us to move.
Still no keys. Can't even tow the car because it's locked!
As a last resort I go around all the little rock pools, shifting sand with my hand and low and behold, I find the keys - thank god...
So yes, been stupid enough to loose the keys at the sea.... and also been clever enough (like you) to find them
