I know I'm lucky to have a/c at home but I can tell you I wouldn't be without it now. One of the biggest bonuses is keeping the windows shut so I don't get waken by the Birds, the Trains nearby etc and have no insects coming in.

Yeah, that dawn chorus is a real bastid if you're trying to sleep until noon :frown:

Hold on, so you'd rather run the a/c than open a window? I'd hate to pay your tizzy bill

For the insects I put net screens on all the windows here 3 years back, I only thought they'd last a year but they're still there and still intact. I didn't catch any cats with them either, I was expecting plaintive mewing and a cat tangled up in one but it never happened.

And this afternoon we had a thunderstorm! No rain of course, just the clouds and the thunder rumbling on for a few hours :(

Russia is going the A/C way as summers are invariably hot over there (despite the delusional stereotypical beliefs that it's snowing 365 days of the year).

Unless we were guaranteed a "BBQ summer" here in Blighty for at least a few weeks a year, then I would consider it. Else it's a gamble spending £x on the off-chance that it will be hot. Last night, I was back under the winter duvet....

-4 in Canberra this morning.

A/C is mandatory for cars. I went for one summer without it here, as the fan blower was broken. When the temperature hit 30+ - it was like driving around in a oven...

Houses here are designed for the climatic conditions - terrace housing is rare!
