What's a word for sweaty and itchy? Switchy? Etchy? Anyway, it appears I neglected to hit the "Configuration F1" button to save the changes, so when I backed out the ECU setting for cruise went back to absent. This time I hit the button, closed it all down, restarted and it was still there.

Image
Note "Configuration F1" button in the bottom left - it's important!

While I was in there I checked the fault codes and the preheater relay one had returned, so I tried actuating it. Yes, I can hear it clicking, what does that prove? I also ended up in a loop at this stage, whatever button I pressed started the test again, so I ended up having to shut everything down and reboot the laptop.

TI noticed a link that said "Check after operation" so I clicked it to see what it was. It said something about "have you done what you are meant to have done?". OKed that and the next screen said:
Image

I also saw some other stuff to play with:
Image
It might be interesting, then again I might wish I hadn't...

I also spotted this:
Image
What, they don't have windscreens in Oz? Btw the French is just the usual stuff about the temporised electric windows - that they stay active for 45 seconds after switch off, unless a front door is opened. Which is the other option there :?

And finally, job jobbed, I started clearing up and heading for the first aid box when I noticed the sill lights were on - Que? Oh no, what have I done? It took me a while to spot it but it seems I managed to set the sill illumination to absent. Once set to present out the went. Phew, talk about don't meddle with things you don't understand!

Well done steve - but I think you may regret the 'rear wiper timed in relation to the windscreen wipers' option, as it'll wipe far too often [/teeshirt]

So.....does it work?

I agree with Doggy. I did the ' rear wiper timed ' thing and the wipers just went to sh*t......
Auto wipers wouldn't work, would only wipe on tickover etc, you will disable that shortly I should imagine... :supafrisk:

No it don't :frown: I keep pressing the buttons but they don't do squat. Maybe now I've finally managed to actually turn it on it'll will have thrown out a fault. Maybe...

Am I correct in thinking this "main brake switch" is the actual brake light switch, rather than the redundant? Can I get to that or am I going to have to take it all to pieces again to clock it from my connector on the brake light feed to the engine ecu? I'm wondering if the scotchlock I used to pick up the feed actually made contact.

Sorry I'm asking for short cuts again but I'm not keen on spending a few hours under the walnut tree again... :(

Ah, I had assumed it would only be timed when the wiper came on in reverse. I'll kill it the next time I go in there and we'll say no more about it :supafrisk:

Yes.

Never tried - can't you spot when the stoplights come on & see if it coincides with PP2000 'seeing' it operate?

You probably already know this, but the two brake switches must operate in sequence, both on pressing and releasing the pedal......

....and, one has normally closed contacts and the other has normally open!
Brake light sw is normally closed, cruise is normally open.

I'm afraid I spent too long in the sun yesterday so I forgot to say - thankyou for your help guys

I read Doggy's comments about coherence (or is it coercion? Cohesion?? Contusion??? I can never remember when I'm doing a search so now if I get it wrong it'll bring me here) elsewhere, so I stuck a meter across the redundant switch set to make a beep when it was shorted and got the wife to stand behind the car watching for the brake lights. After a considerate amount of fiddling I ended up with the redundant switch on its first slot and had to push the brake light switch one slot further down, so, as I pushed the pedal down, there was a brief pause between the meter shutting up and my wife shouting "on!"

I guess I really need to check the feed for the red switch, it's a shame I loomed it all in before I knew it was all ok but I wasn't expecting the feed to be such a bugger to get to (it's about 5" of wire in a tube coming from right up behind the instrument panel with less than an inch exposed) but maybe I can do something with a pin. I also need to check the clutch switch via PP and see if the parameter measurements for the cruise stalk will register the buttons being pressed.

You risk fecking your meter Steve by trying to do continuity tests when the circuit is still live!
Why would you need to hear a beep when you had the fountain of all knowledge parked at the rear of the car about to shout 'Oy' when the brake light comes on!! :cheesy:

EDIT: forget that. I just re-read your post.....

Errr, ok

Just call me Mr. Itchy :(

So I pulled the wire out from where it crosses the engine bay with the loom, stuck a pin into it and hooked up my meter. With the pedal released it reads the full battery positive, with the pedal depressed (thankyou dear :cheesy: ) it reads around 3 volts, so I'm pretty sure that's ok.

So I fired up PP and checked the cruise switch actually does something:
Image

Next I looked through PP until I found the information/driving menu, under the BSI. Right at the bottom it says "clutch pedal depressed" followed by the word "No":
Image

With the ignition on I can get most of it to cycle but the clutch switch just says no all the time.
(Btw for those of you that haven't spotted it yet, the navigation is the stuff up the left)

So I pulled the connector off the switch (it's fairly easy to get to, compared to the brake switches) and stuck my meter across it - it's a normally closed one, just like the redundant brake switch. It checked out fine so I checked for voltage on the connector, which was there in abundance. I didn't check towards the ecu but it strikes me that, if it was open circuit then PP would tell me it was permanently depressed.

I went back to search through the menus and finally spotted the option for the clutch switch:
Image
Which I set to "present".

Back to the "clutch pedal depressed" page but it still resolutely refuses to say anything other than "No", ignition off, on and with the engine running.

I suspect there's not much point in taking it for a test drive :(

Well done for spotting that option, maybe there's more? (though god knows where to look). :?

Clutching at strays here, but maybe the ecu & BSI have to go into 'sleep' & back again for everything to update?

Really looking forward to the 'HowTo' now.

I suspect that handfull of straws you have there will turn out to be fresh air - everything else updates once you hit the configuration/F1 button so I can't imagine that would be different.

I'd like to see a 'how to' as well, although I don't think it's worth me writing one if the end result is DOA :(

You're probably right.

I've been trying to think of a way of determining the differences between a working system, (e.g. mine) and yours, (which must be damned close by now).

Trouble is, I've never enabled one and the only person I know of who did, (who's name I can't remember right now), did so with an early semi-mux D9 HDi, which seemed much more straightforward, only needed enabling in the engine ecu IIRC.

Clutch switch? It's ok, I'm not expecting you to rush out and hook up PP, I know very well what a PITA it is.

Anyway, I've got my bro coming next Tuesday and have a house to clean up first, so the time for playing is over I'm afraid. For now...

Never knowing when to quit, I had another butchers.......
My clutch switch doesn't work either, according to pp2k.
Further, when pressing the brake pedal, the main brake switch has to operate before the redundant one, opposite on releasing.
Do your other stalk buttons work too?

Ooh! So it's meaningless  That's some very good news right there - thank you very much kind sir! :cheesy: You didn't happen to notice if your clutch contact input is set to present or absent did you? (i.e. should I set mine back to absent in case it burgers something up...)
Doggy wrote:Further, when pressing the brake pedal, the main brake switch has to operate before the redundant one, opposite on releasing.
So there should be an overlap? That kind of makes sense, considering how the switches are adjusted. I guess all I need to do is put the brake light switch back where it was :(
Doggy wrote:Do your other stalk buttons work too?
Yes indeedy! I just couldn't press the buttons and reach the prnt scrn button on the laptop at the same time
