Global test: Engine ECU !

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Global test: Engine ECU !

Post by dirtydirtydiesel »

Hi all,
Don't know if anyone out there has suffered with my latest problem but here goes. Now I've got my pp2000 up & running & sorted all the issue's I bought it for  , I tought I'd run a global test  .

Results: Engine ECU. Permanent fault. Pre-heating relay circuit. Relay opened.

So what's next, Anyone know where this Relay is / located & can it be cleaned or is it best to replace, Gen or pattern ?

Many thanks in advance All :)

That sounds like the Glow Plug relay. Does the car start ok from cold?

Nearly every HDi I've plugged mine into comes up with this, or a very similar error message. Unless you're having real starting problems, just ignore it.

Thanks Guy's,
Yes the car starts fine & some times the glow plug light comes on but most times it doesn't, but to be fair since i've owned it it's been 10 degrees + ,
B.T .W I'd worked out it was the golw plug pre heat relay, just wanted to make sure all was good before the cold weather get's here :(

Don't worry about it - we were having a starting in adverse conditions competition a few winters back. Mine (and others) started in -20 degrees, without waiting for the glowplugs, exactly the same as on a summer's day. Direct injection engines start much more easily from cold.

+1, almost every Hdi has this - mine has it too - but unless we suddenly get to -20, theres nothing to worry about.

You could change it ( its the green and black box under the throttle housing ) but no point, save your money....

Can't find a smilie to insert here..!!??
