Right guys and gals I've gone and done it now

Our very own Dai has been and dropped off his previous pride and joy at my house in exchange for a few quid.

For those who don't know the car, it's a 2002, 2 litre petrol HPi Executive with an engine fault (amongst others).

My intention is to repair the fuel supply problem and put the car back on the road.

I've plugged in my PP2000 and have got the following results.....
P0222 Acc pedal sensor short to earth.
P1294 Fuel pressure regulation fault, fall in output.
P1297 Fuel pressure regulation fault low fluctuation.
P0568 Engine ecu internal (CAN).

Using my generic code reader I get ....
P0220 Throttle position sensor, switch circuit B
P1113 Manual control.
P0568 Cruise control set signal.

The other thing I have are a shed load of faults in the BSi and since I fitted a new battery the MFD doesn't work (the top screen), it lights up, but it is blank....maybe I've screwed it fitting the new battery....BSi reset done without success.
Central locking doesn't work off either key fob.

As far as I can tell it looks like I have a fuel pressure regulator fault plus maybe some red herrings in the list.
Don't know how much the TPS would affect the running!

Problem is the engine starts but cuts out straight away, no acceleration.

I cleared all the codes and none have returned, but I still have the problems.

Can I test the fuel pressure regulator in PP2000?

Best of luck with it John, it certainly has the potential to be a really nice car if you can get to the bottom of it.

I don't have any answers for you, but on a HDi, you can monitor fuel pressure regulator duty cycle, ('OCR') and monitor the current it's drawing, (which, together with fuel pressure actaul and set, would I guess the parameters of choice to diagnose fuel pressure issues). It's likely the same with the HPi, but with so few of them around it's not going to be easy to compare notes.

Were they any more common in Citreon guise, I wonder?

Over on the volvo forum the main problems with the GDi seem to be the high pressure fuel pump and coking up of the inlet manifold.

A lot. Thankfully they're cheap; swapping it out is supposedly easy, so it's worth a gamble. If it doesn't fix it, it'll help the car run smoothly when you do figure out why it just cuts out.

The GDi had a serious problem with coking up and a throttle body problem. The best thing with the GDi is to put a tin of Forte injection cleaner/fuel treatment in your tank every 3 months.

Eric, from my research the problem is fairly common on the C5....(same engine) I need to start looking at finding a C5 somewhere with a pressure regulator lying about on it.

I'm gonna strip off the regulator tomorrow and have a look....bloody awkward to get at, might be easier to take off the inlet manifold!

My mate who does diagnostics thinks I'm crazy He could well be right

I have a Xantia coil pack and injector rail with injectors in the shed somewhere - it is for a 1.8 but you are welcome to it. I can pass them over to Eric tomorrow if you like?

Hey John,

Good to see you again earlier . That was a long day, almost exactly 12 hrs from going to pick the trailer up this morning to arriving back this evening. I've been home just long enough to have some paracetamol and a Chinese.

So here's the old girl just about to leave her long term home in the valleys (the dodgy looking character is my very good mate Mark who has kindly driven over 450 miles for me today in his Navara, my new hero!)


And here she is safely stowed in her new home.


That's a hell of a list, as you say there are probably some red herrings in there (I think the TPS is one). The main fault has to be the fuel regulation issue as that was the original one. Some of the other things, such as the keys, are going to be a result of standing for so long (I hadn't actually locked it for over a year cos it's been locked in the garage, so the keys probably need re-syncing or perhaps the batteries in the fobs are flat?).

Anyway, I'm just glad that you're giving her another chance at life, I'm sure you'll be able to sort it out.

Does it have a pressure regulator that fastens on with 2 small torx screws and a connector block?

This engine is the rare HPI engine, used in the 2.0 C5 as well.

I'll get everything working eventually! The central locking works fine off the keys so the fobs just need some TLC.

We did well to get the car into my garage, it isn't easy driving into there even with a fully working vehicle! I expect you are happy to get your garage back

No problem, quite enjoyed the road trip, just knackered now and another trip to do tomorrow .

I am glad to get the garage back but there's a big pile of stuff in the middle of the floor that I had been storing in the back of the car!

Have you told the wife that she's on Facebook too?
