One advantage of having the estate in my garage is I can store stuff in the back :D

Just gave my wife a shock to see her photo on the forum :D
No problem, quite enjoyed the road trip, just knackered now and another trip to do tomorrow :P .

I am glad to get the garage back but there's a big pile of stuff in the middle of the floor that I had been storing in the back of the car!

Have you told the wife that she's on Facebook too?

Yeah she saw the photo on Facebook, she thought it was funny :D

Thanks Jon and Lou :D

I took off the fuel pressure regulator and had a look, squirted WD40 in it and gave it a good tapping on the wall, refitted it and started the engine....the only difference it made is that it starts every single time you ask it but only runs for 3 seconds.

Going to ring my mate tomorrow and get a fuel pressure check done on it before I take the plunge and buy a new regulator (at extortionate cost  )

Was she saying "cheers, now f*ck off back to the sheep"?

Best of luck with getting it sorted mate i think Dai put a Welsh curse on it judging by the pp2000 results but They could be false like others have said.

Alright folks, first update....

Had my mate round with his diagnostic setup and fuel pressure measuring equipment, the results were still not 100% conclusive, but confirmed the fuel pump in the tank and high pressure pump are working so all things point to the pressure regulator, without having conclusive proof!

Fuel pressure was present but not as high as would be expected.

His machine recorded the same codes for fuel pressure regulation fault as PP2000.

As I thought, he agrees with me that the TPS fault is a red herring, he doesn't believe there is a fault there.

Tomorrow I will order a new fuel pressure regulator.

Regarding the MFD I have found a Peugeot breakers in town that I didn't know about....I was working next door by chance :D
They have a complete 2.2 HDi Executive just come in and have told me I can have the MFD quite cheap....collecting tomorrow afternoon.

Can anyone with servicebox please post a diagram of the fuel system? Thanks in advance if you can.

Are you sure it's not just the fuel pressure sensor?
If it isn't getting a pressure reading it will cut out straight away.

Nope, not sure at all, there is nothing to say the sensor is faulty, but it could be. The readings are all pointing at a fuel pressure regulation fault, plus, from what Dai said about the RAC guy hitting the pressure regulator and getting a result of sorts points to the probability that the regulator is at fault.

I would prefer if the sensor was the problem...it costs a whole lot less :D The problem is I just don't know which it is, it could be both!

It's a toss up as to which one to go for, the general concensus on the Citroen C5 forum and the readings I have from PP and my mate's gear lead me to the pressure regulator, but I will just have to take the risk :frown:

Want my engine?

John, I wish you the very best of luck, I have every faith in you, you are a long term mechanic and your experience is invaluable!

Dai, I saw these photos last night on Facebook and it absolutely broke my heart... Reminds me of selling my 205s and that heartbreak when a car finally goes is second to none...
I know yesterday you were saying about the garage space and I am sure you are relieved 70% but still a bit of you that misses it...

Looking forward to seeing her back on the road and at the meets John, if it's like yesterdays meet us estates up front of the convoy left the rest to it

I absolutely love that car. The pride I had in it never faded in the 10 years that it was my daily ride. Even on the rare occasions when it played up and pissed me off, I'd fix it and then immediately fall back in love with it because it is such a great car.

But, at the end of the day, I replaced it over a year ago, and came to terms with selling it over a year (in fact I had it sold too, but it had other ideas  ). Due to a number of factors I procrastinated and wasted time, finding reasons not to address the issues, and have been constantly niggled by the thought that I'd eventually have to tow it out of the garage and call the scrap man to come and get it. Had I had to scrap it or break it I'd have been heartbroken!

That's why I'm so relieved that John has taken it on, I too have every confidence that he'll fix it up and that it'll live again, providing others the comfort and joy that it provided me for so long. So no, I'm not sad at all, I'm really happy. If, hovever, our fearless resident mechanic doesn't manage to revive my old girl, then I'll be sad!

Don't know if you've seen this. John? http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/v ... =3&t=39288

- implies it could be the lift pump, from your description.

If it is regulated to 5 bar, it should be easy to verify correct pressure.......

Thanks, Kelvin and Richard, I hope to have sorted the problem by then, but we'll see. :D

Eric, thanks for the link :D My mate fitted his fuel injection test unit to the car (there is an access hole in the fuel rail at the back of the manifold where he screwed his tester in).

He confirmed that the in tank pump was working normally and he also confirmed the high pressure fuel pump is working normally.

I wanted a diagram of the fuel system because there is a fitting where the fuel pipes enter the under bonnet area at the back that may be another regulator, however, I'm going to the dealer tomorrow to see what parts I might need.

I still see the pressure regulator as the problem, but we'll see.

I have thought about the possibility of fitting an after market pressure regulator that engine builders/tuners use, but not sure if it is possible with this setup.

MFD removed ready for replacement :D
