Need new keys

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Need new keys

Post by munkymanmatt »

Hi all.
I've done a bit of googling on this but I'm still not really sure about it so I thought it best to ask!

What exactly do I have to do to get a new key to work completely (inc remote locking)?

The process as I understand it so far is...

buy new key
cut blade in locksmiths
get key coded to car (how?)
get car to 'learn' key for remote locking (again how?)

Thanks in advance

EDIT
I bought my car 2nd hand, there is a 4 digit number written inside the manual, I think this is the car's PIN or immobiliser code, I'm not sure if these are the same.
I have 2 working keys but the buttons are gone and so are the switches the buttons press, so no remote locking. The inside of the keys are full of crap and I'm going to assume they are beyond repair unless I have no other option to get the remote locking working.
