It's no secret Miss Pug has been screaming ABS fault ever since I got her sorry ass back in Dec 2011.........
You also know I have already replaced (as per PP diagnostics) the Rear RH speed sensor and I do not have any juddering under the brake pedal to suggest the rings are fooked. When doing the sensor rings looked A-OK.

Sometimes I can clear the fault and it goes away for ages, othertimes (like today) I clear the fault, drive for a couple of miles and it comes back on, and within a minute of engine start up.

The ONLY other thing I think it may be is the connection box that sits above the fuel tank:



My plan would be to eliminate the connection altogether, chop out the connection box, solder together and use heat shrink to seal it in.

Any other bright ideas?

PP is also describing it again as a ''permanent fault''

Bit of a tangent, I know, but you haven't got any mismatch in the tyres by any chance?

Any difference in circumference can give you this problem.

Is there any more detail on the fault? By that I mean short or open circuit or is it complaining about the readings?

I guess it can't hurt to cut the connector, it'll remove it from your enquiries at the very least.

No more information at all, just bringing up a fault with the 'rear RH speed sensor'

Sometimes it comes up as permanent, and sometimes its coming up as intermittent...

Semi-mux fault messages are even more vague and non-commital than on later cars.
(Clearly designed to be delivered in a strong french accent, with shrugging of shoulders and the apendage, 'normalement').

Just a thought - is the clearance between the ABS sensor and reluctor ring adjustable, at all?

I bet... incredibly vague messages annoy me!
I haven't a clue, how would I tell if it's adjustable?

Not adjustable, if you hit the sensor ' accidentally ' it just breaks off... Unless you can put a washer behind it but that would bring the sensor and reluctor ring further apart.

I can't imagine there being that much tolerance anyway....

Not a chance of that - had to glue the beast in

Couldn't get the stupid retaining bolt out, so had to drill the new metal sleeve out the retaining bolt hole in the new sensor and just slide it over the rounded off bolt and glue



Is that where my problem lies? During the MOT in May the test inspector commented that I'd done a good job.....
