Working on a 307
My cousin purchased a 307 as a bit of a project car, normally he buys something with a bit of bodywork damage fixes it up and drives it, but decided to go for something with mechanical damage and got a 2006 1.6 HDi 110 307 from copart for £700
The old turbo was in shite, so its had a new turbo core fitted, Its amazing how much sludgey carbon sh*t these engines end up with, we got the car going today, but it felt flat, the problem being was that 2 vanes from the vairable vane thingy broke, after taking the turbo back out the variable vane part has been ordered.
I noticed a bit of play in the new turbo, its not much but it can definatley be felt, im wondering does the oil pressure in any way level off the bearing inside the turbo that supports the shaft holding the two propellors?
Looking around the DV6 engine its packed full of stupid emissions stuff, lots of poor quality plastic parts, and on a 307 access isnt great.
Can you do a defap, decat, and blank off the EGR on these cars?

That's the
Ford engine. It has a Bosch ECU, probably EDC15.
There's a lot on PeugeotForums about it

Re: Working on a 307
I suspect it's an EDC16, (if it's a Bosch).
(EDC15's are easy to deFAP, the others, less so).

Re: Working on a 307
I read the 307s map file with the Galetto, and sent it to some ebay seller, paid £75 and got the file sent back with no DPF, some settings were also changed in PP2000 and the 307 is now a 1.6 HDi Defap, it also has had the cat removed and EGR blanked.
It drove up the road, pulling a lot stronger than before, no lights on and it maintains an ordinary coolant temperature.
The problem is that the car has cost nearly £2000 in parts alone, bringing it very close to the price of a similarly aged 307 with no problems.

But yours is now much more reliable. My mum's 1.6 hdi in the c4 also had no end of problems. It's a very poor engine....

Re: Working on a 307
I spoke too soon.
My cousin said it went into limp mode last night, and today when i took it for a drive it wouldnt boost until after 3000rpm, the pp2000 doesnt show up a single fault or error message but its seems like an electrical problem because once the turbo does boost its very strong with no smoke.
Unplugging the MAF sensor made no difference, i had the same problem with late boost on my car and that solved it, these 1.6 engines just have a lot more sensors

Re: Working on a 307
Decatting, defapping or EGR-blanking will not help, the problem lies in the sump. On this engine, the sump is shaped such that you don't get all the sludge out when you change the oil, some will remain. Normally, this wouldn't be a problem, but the oil feed line to the turbo has a tiny filter in the banjo bolt. This filter will slowly, but surely accumulate sludge until it is completely blocked. That means no more oil for the turbo, which in turn leads to a burnt-out turbo.FarmerPug wrote:The old turbo was in shite, so its had a new turbo core fitted, Its amazing how much sludgey carbon sh*t these engines end up with, we got the car going today, but it felt flat, the problem being was that 2 vanes from the vairable vane thingy broke, after taking the turbo back out the variable vane part has been ordered.
The only viable solutions are to either drop the sump and clean it every time the oil is changed, remove the filter from the banjo bolt, or to replace the sump with a new redesigned unit, which Peugeot cannot supply.
I would never buy a car with the 1.6L DLD/DV6 HDI engine.

Re: Working on a 307
Interesting. Can this sludge not be shifted any other way? Maybe liquidify it and drain it out by jacking the car up in various different directions?

The key to maintaining these engines is to use the correct oil (compatible with DPF) .........http://www.uk.commaoil.com/products/results/91045770 and to change the oil and filter regular.
When you drain the oil you must have the oil temperature very high so that as much sludge as possible can be drained off, but if you change the oil and filter frequently the sludge will not build up.
Yes, having the car in a good position for draining and adjusting the angle is a good thing.
One other problem with the sump on these engines is the fact that the drain hole is very small....making it bigger would have been a sensible design.

Re: Working on a 307
The sump was removed on the car completley cleaned, and a new turbo oil supply pipe and banjo bolt were used when we refitted the turbo

It's a great engine to drive, shame about the need for fastidious maintenance.

Dropping the sump isn't an issue really, just time consuming.
Ford fitted this engine to replace the 1.8 in my car. Although it's not as reliable or solid it is much nicer to drive.
