Re: Pugster is off to the garage this morning
the law was supposed to change this year making it a legal requirement for all diesels that came with a cat from new to have an approved cat fitted for mot, they decided not to push this through, that's not to say it won't change for next year or the year after who knows, that's why i have kept my original cat and just smashed the guts out.

I've checked the MOT guide with a mechanic. Only Ignition combustion engines actually need a visible cat. You could always get the exhaust fabricator to make a fake cat in the form of a small silencer close to the engine?

Sounds good and at this price I should not complaingrasmere59 wrote:That would be my route, they'll ask for a reg number,so have a trawl through ebay or the autotrader and get the reg from a 2000-2001 car and give them that,i did it for my next door neighbour for his 110 and saved a fortune,my local MOT tester (yours too I think Sonia) says as long as it's got a cat on he's doesn't go looking for the "type approved stamp".jonsowman wrote:Bargain-tastic: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/80282-CATALYT ... 0998506723

When they ask for a registration, is a Y reg ok to give? I can't find any X reg 2.2 HDi - did they even make X reg 2.2 HDi's?

I would have thought a Y would be o.k. as I think all the changes with type approved cats came in post March 2001 which would make a car a 51 reg.
