Is it too late to regret my HDi purchase?

Post by Sonia406 »

SO many error messages flagging up on the MFD - Is it too late to regret the purchase?

Ok, so car came with the DPF on STATIC on the dash, no biggy I figured. (What does it mean when it flashes, perhaps rather stupidly I have been on the dual carriageway at speeds of 70mph, and above 65mph it flashes...)

Today, me and a friend were shopping in Swindon. I went to turn the key and had a new error message.
Basically, immobilizer defective. Would not start. Thankfully I stopped turning the key and tried again and he fired up.
That error has happened twice today.

I get the 'additive low' message a lot, something to do with gasoline.

I think I am just about figuring out that the grass was not greener on the other side. That said, Miss Pug was taken for a spin this afternoon just to make sure she's doing Okay, We have the EML back on and the clutch pedal is sticking down at times..........

On other news, the garage said the flexy DEFINITELY needs replacing as it's broken on the flexi, near the sub frame.
Picked up my standard centre section and back box today, was going to get a power flow or big loud bad boy on there, but to be quite honest, I really can't be arssed at the moment

I must also say is there a way to play with the electric seats? I want the heat on all the time as the button is pressed, not to be ''automatically'' shut off when ones bottom becomes nice and toasty (to be honest, I need the heat into my back).

I guess it's a damn good job I have AA cover just in case he throws up this fault again and I can't get the bloody thing started.

Over to you boys............

(1) Don't worry about the additive/DPF stuff. You're already working on this with getting the exhaust sorted. Later, you'll map those away.

(2) Get PP2000 plugged in and see if you can work out what's going on with the immobiliser. It's almost certainly the aerial that fits around the ignition barrel that reads the chip in the key. I had this problem and fortunately never had a non-start... in the end. However, fix it sooner rather than later!
Here's one (I think): http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/400516434880

(3) Get that cat+flexi off eBay, then you can finish (1) and get on to the mapping.

Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

2) What is the fix with that? What if nothing is flagged up on PP2000?
3) Will do boss :D

I'd expect it to be complaining of something like not being able to read the key.

The seat heaters aren't on a timer, they have a little bi-metal thermostat embedded in the base element pad at the rear. You can feel for it...in the middle towards the rear.
It's there for a reason...to stop the elements burning out prematurely! Interfere at your peril! :supafrisk:

Didn't mjb have an issue with his immobiliser and it was down to an old, knackered battery?

Mine's done it about 3 times, all I do is calmly remove the key, turn it upside down, insert it again, turn it and off we go.

I guess when you get it on PP you can post a screenshot of any faults it's stored on here so we can have a peruse.

I got one of them for a mate of mine here (if it wasn't that actual one it was very similar), didn't last too long unfortunately :frown:

Mind you I had to pay the postage to get it out here which wasn't cheap, for a tenner perhaps it would be worth a punt. I wouldn't run the proper seat heater at the same time though.

Mine too

Didn't happen often, always started if you turned it off then on.

All the MFD stuff you've mentioned is FAP / additive related and will disappear with the ecu map.

If you really lose patience with it, you can always chuck it back on eBay, with a few less issues.

Er... yeah, hold on to it. You got it for virtually nothing and with a little TLC (that means no getting pissed off with it - you knew it needed work) it will be a reliable workhorse.
