Auto lights doing my head in!!

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

That's the thing, it does it at night on sark country lanes too. Which is really scary :(

I'm also wondering if it's the com port. If it is then I'll just rewire the lot.

Maybe I'm missing something, but as far as I'm aware, if you turn the headlights via the stalk, they're on regardless of what the auto function does or doesn't do.

That's the thing though, even turned on manually, the system is overriding that and turning off the lights, no matter what settings I use on the auto lights.

In that case you have a good old fashioned intermittent electrical fault, rather than mischevious auto lights.

Do you hear any relays clicking when it plays up?

Hm, I think there's just a single click as if you'd turned them off manually. I shall listen today.

The dip beams are run off the fuse panel under the bonnet, there's just one relay with two fuses. The sidelights (including the tails) are run off the BSI via the passenger fuse panel, so never the twain an' all that.

So the bsi could be the fault? It's also worth mentioning that if I plug in trailer lighting, they go out much sooner, sub 5 minutes.

I don't think so, I fitted it and everything works 100%. But I'm sure it was broken beforehand.

You need to sort your lights ASAP. Mine would turn themselves off and would NOT go back on no matter how much I tried the switch  I used to have to pull over somewhere until they sorted themselves out, super scary on dark frosty mornings...
Over-riding with PP is best - maybe someone local to you can help out. If not then the chap on eBay that reconditions the Comms units might be the answer.
PP sorted mine but will send my comms off to the eBay chap soon so it can be fixed properly, along with my floppy and not disengaging indicators...

Any chance I can come and visit you in Bournemouth over the week beginning the 11th, I'd appreciate it if you could plug in pp for me and give it a try?

Southampton is not too far from me, about 20mins, but Jon is at Uni in Southampton at the moment so he may be able to save you time and sort out your lights instead.
If Jon can't fit you in then I will happily sort you out.
