Blimey, you've got a good memory  Well yes, I do miss the express drawing room, but that's not the only car I've driven with cruise. I suspect the first was that 2.0 Grenada Scrapio auto which my dad and I got after I mangled my legs in 1992, I vividly remember it holding its speed while it weaved all over the road. Admittedly most of the others have been in the US and Canada where it makes much more sense due to the absence of traffic...

Auto 'boxes are a bit of a personal preference, I suppose for these small-ish cars doing relatively short journeys they're not really necessary but if you do big miles (e.g. driving from Charlottesville VA to New Orleans & back 8) ), coupled with cruise then they rule. I hear that the usual downsides of decreased performance & increased fuel consumption aren't really true any more, unfortunately reliability seems to have taken a knock too :(

Aa you say, it's personal preference. The lovliest of my old jags was a near mint 67 3.4 S-type which whispered along effortlessly and was regularly drooled over wherever it went. It had a simply awful 3 speed auto, with vitually no overun braking. In the winter, you couldn't keep the engine turning over fast enough to charge the battery in town. The 3.8 manual that preceeded it felt like sports car in comparison.

Auto boxes used to be like that, automatics used to eat brake disks. These days they're much better with the downshifts...

...playing with a new toy:

Not that I have clue 1 what I'm doing with it

I'd already cleared the engine code (cat o2 value out of range, quelle horreur  ) but I wasn't expecting all the transmission trouble codes so I took a screen shot so I could Google them. I thought at first that as the program had decided I was in the US that it was looking for an automatic transmission, but when I reset it to tell it I was in Albania (is it important?) they were still there. I'm not sure if clearing them will have any effect because they're current, but I thought that was the generally accepted to be the first step. Or maybe they'll reappear after 100km like the emissions system one will, who can tell?

Nah, not according to the vin anyway.

I did start trying to Google the codes but it was all data, yaw rates and other assorted nonsense that went straight over the top of my head. It can't be that important as it's not bringing up any warning lights (apart from the occasional beep-beep-beep-beep and flash of the VSC/TSC light when I'm chucking it about... :? )

... washing the Pug  I've spent more time cleaning it than driving it this year. Still, I did have a nice drive of it a couple of weekends back. Anyway, while I was washing it I thought I may as well leave the engine running to give it a good warming. Turned off when I finished, went indoors for an hour (I'd rinsed it off with rain water). Came out, started it up to put it away - "bing!" Aunty pollution fault  I've got the battery disconnected and on charge, if that doesn't clear it it's out with PP again. I dunno if it's taken offence to not being driven for long periods or it didn't like being left idling for half an hour but I doubt it's anything serious.

Meanwhile, since the yoyo further disgraced itself by destroying the ignition key I'm having to use the spare with no remote. I did free up the locks when I got it but obviously time hasn't been kind and only the driver's door lock worked (the key wouldn't even go in the tailgate lock) so I thought I'd better do something about it before it leaves me stranded. Dig out WD... look for straw... straw? Straw? Here boy! No straw. How do you get WD in a door lock with no straw? I found a bigger straw, flattened the end with my teeth so it went in the locks and sprayed it in with that, followed by a squirt of graphite in all 4 locks and a thorough working with the key. Then I found the straw, it was in the jar with all the pens, pencils paintbrushes etc. Perfect place for it really, until the next time I can't find it...

I've also painted all the locknuts ready to try the old sump guard again tomorrow. I was thinking about that yesterday coming back from Zagreb in torrential rain, there was so much standing water on the roads it was splashing over the yoyo almost constantly and even on mental the wipers still weren't clearing it. I could just imagine how far the Pug would have got with its severe lack of undershielding and the water going straight into the aux belt and electrics. Anyway between that, having to guess where the road is because it's waterlogged, trying not to slide about on tyres that are on the limit (they have one month left until I put the winters on and bin them), the misaligned/overpowered headlamp brigade coming the other way and the usual moron tailgating me trying to push me to go faster but too chicken to overtake, it was brown trouser time again. And my wife wants to have a conversation because she's bored

Those pesky straws! :frown: then you try to put it back in that sellotape 'loop' thing and split it open..........a rubber band gets all slippy and flies off by itself.

If you ever find the WD straw can you ask it where my 10mm socket is please?

I did finded it, it was in with all the pens etc. Yeah, I'm a dab hand at loosing 1/4" drive sockets too, but they're cheap enough (so I end up with lots of spares for sizes I never use...) Or do you mean 1/2"? You can buy them individually.

You can now buy WD with a straw that's built in! I'd still manage to loose it though.

I wonder if anyone's ever lost the can of WD but know exactly where the straw is?

Croatia had a tornado (or is that a hurricane? Is there a difference?) that lasted from Sunday evening until last night. It's not anything like what just happened in the Philippines so we probably shouldn't moan much. There are trees, poles, signs etc. down all over, a few houses damaged, roof tiles lying in the high road, that sort of thing. I don't know if many died but I did hear of one guy hit by a falling tree. Personally we've not had any damage to speak off but my sis-in-law lost all the big pines at the front of her garden and my mate has lost a few trees too, including one big pine at the front of his house - he's away at the moment so I'm looking after his gaff and was quite surprised yesterday evening when I walked round the corner of his driveway and nearly fell down a big hole because the pine also took his garden path with it

Have a pic:
