Just bought my first Peugeot, and my first Diesel

After looking at these forums for a long while, I decided against a golf estate for my supremely practical diesel estate car, and chose a 406!

Me being me, I managed to pick up an absolutely awful example, a HDI 90 estate, 2000 'X' reg, and in red, it wasn't exactly a looker! 156K miles, almost no maintenance done, paid too much.

Oh well!

After only two to three weeks of ownership, and fixing the bulbs in my MFD unit (display for mileage, radio etc), and replacing rear brake shoes, pistons and a handbrake cable, I must admit - I love this car! Despite its setbacks, brake failures and shabby condition, its the comfiest, most high tech-est, MPG-getting, spacious awesome mobile I have ever owned! (note to members with hdi and drumbrakes on rear- a handbrake cable is the key to enlightenment! best handbrake I've had so far!)

I also own a '72 VW Beetle, and needed a practical car to just service, drive, repeat. This thing has exceeded all expectations of a French car, and being my first French after a load of German and Japanese cars, i'm more than pleasantly surprised!

Overall, i'm highly impressed with the level of knowledge and politeness (sometimes, lol) of this boards members, and i'm happy to now be part of it all!
