Number plate question
A thin film of plastic has peeled off the clios number plate, the digits look a bit faded but not by much, would i need to get a new numberplate for the mot test?

Re: Number plate question
If you can still read it clearly, it should be OK
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Re: Number plate question

Re: Number plate question
Im thinking its better to be safe and get the number plate, a place up the road charges £8, its better than giving mr dickhead at the mot centre another £18.
Here is the plate at the moment:

The dog doesn't mind though, i left the clio sitting on axle stands last night in the shed with the window open, and arrived this morning to see this:

Re: Number plate question
It don't look that bad tbh.
ive seen worse get past the M.o.t
a'spose it will look nicer with new one on.
The old dog looks nice and happy in there
Edit, Quote from mr Vosa
Number plates must also be displayed as the standard reflective yellow and white plates with black lettering. The lettering must conform to the standard size and font and the plates must not have any emblems or logos (other than the standard GB/England/Wales/Scotland emblems) and should not be cracked, damaged or osbcured by dirt or in any other way.

Re: Number plate question
I got the clio on temporary insurance for a week and took it in for the mot test just after getting an mot wash and the wheels aligned and balanced
The new numberplates were fine, the lights aligned, the brakes strong and the worry i had was the emissions test and it was fine
Despite this it failed on a broken rear coil spring, it really didnt look cracked or broke last week when i was under the car
Isnt it amazing how an old car can consume money, i only hope this strategy of making it a good car with an MOT and tax helps when selling it

The clio passed on its second attempt, i went and put 6 months tax on it, put it up on gumtree last night. It sold tonight for £760 which wasn't too bad.

Re: Number plate question
I had it in for 1000, but I'm happy with what i got, its covered what I've spent on it, and a bit left over,
just whats needed coming up towards christmas
One thing i learned, if you sell more than 2 cars in a year you have to pay £15 for any more cars, i put it on done deal.ie instead which cost £4 and seems to work better, gumtree here in northern ireland makes you select your postcode, and any buyer must specify the county they are looking in which means very few people viewing an ad.
