Is it parked on the level or on a incline this can affect the reading ,
surprised it moved at all , putting 2 gallon in is like pissing in the ocean
it takes that to get the light to go out ...

Yep, just after filling up and on the return journey home and even on the drive - the reading stayed the same. (All flats)

Well I admit I didn't expect the needle to go that far up...........

Just been out to check the car, still reading the same...... So it hasn't settled... I know only last week some kind fool, cough - I mean Boyfriend topped me up £30 and on that £30 I didn't particularly drive too far, so maybe just maybe this is a correct reading... I really don't know......

Mine was on 1/4 of a tank on fri and I put 3 x 5ltr cans in it and it went to 3/4 of a tank!,i drove up to Derbyshire and the needle dropped to a 1/2 a tank,i put £20 in up there and the needle never moved a jot. This is why I always carry a 5ltr can of diesel in the car at all times,my previous hdi Rapier's gauge was just as bad.

+1 They all do that. Mine usually drops to empty in the normal manner. then I suddenly have half a tank. I think it actually calculates it, rather than paying attention to the sender. Anyway, if you ignore the fact that it might not actually be empty and just fill it anyway you won't have any problems.

Thanks Steve... Obviously going to have to invest in a diesel can and just carry some around with me just in case...

Thats the problem, you don't know when the fuel light is going to come on,the last time it did it to me was in my old Rapier in the middle of nowhere with the gauge showing between a good 1/4 and a 1/2 and "bong" on the mfd "fuel level low",i was glad of the can then and that was me on my own but with your kids in the car I wouldn't risk not having a can.

Here here... I know that locally I have 2 petrol stations to chose from but if going further afield, like back in Leicester on Thursday this week, I don't particularly want to risk running out where I don't know what's around with kids in the car and having to wait for the AA.... Did you see the news article, vs RAC and motor home, dogs and M40 yesterday?

Yeah, if I can avoid breaking down - I definitely shall!

Hi hun, I have driven nearly 60 miles with my fuel light on, just keep yours around £25 a pop, should be 1/4 tank ish, good for 150+ miles.

When your light comes on - don't panic and top it up within a couple of days and you'll be okay, have you worked out your mpg yet...

P.S. Are you are looking for reasons NOT to like the car..??

Hiya trouble :)
Problem is, if it's showing half a tank and really it's only up a notch from reserve, surely by the time it goes onto reserve it's already used that fuel? I'm trying to make the point that it's over estimating surely? So when it is low it'll still be saying quarter of a tank? I dunno, confusing!

Around town, around the same as Miss Pug (33 ish) on longer journeys I got 50mpg last trip up to Leicester... Unfortunately when caught in traffic that went down to 43... So only around a 10mpg improvement on Miss Pug...

Me, thinking of reasons to not like the car? Would I?
All I'm saying there is a reason it's a dirty filthy piece of...........

On another note I have bought a new rear wiper for it... at the moment it can sulk on the drive with that... it ain't getting a penny out of me... I have a feeling this stupid thing will be on the drive past it's MOT due date in the new year and not being used............ All I'm going to say.......

By the time I have fixed all it needs and got it through the MOT I am looking at big money... Where as Miss Pug just needs £143 in tax.... She's looking the way cheapest option at the moment.........

He's booked in at Hi Q on Wednesday for the once over, there's a serious braking fault, it could just be disks and pads but the handbrake is having major issues too. When ever I have to break I have adapted to the 'OH sh*t, close my eyes and pray for the best' approach...

Of course it doesn't help when I pull onto the drive and see Miss Pug there... She was a troublesome woman (as we all are eh men?) BUT at least she gave it a few months before she went catastrophically wrong!

What's up with the brakes and handbrake?

Around town it's not likely to be hugely better than the petrol, but on long journeys the HDis really shine 8)

On a separate note, my mpg has definitely dropped a bit since the cold weather kicked in :(
