Not always the case though is it? I paid £700 for mine 2 years ago and apart from the alternator rebuild (£50) I've only spent out on service items.lozz wrote:Ifind that when you buy acar and its under a couple agrand
you end up in the longrun paying more than market value for them by the time you've put everything right.![]()
and once you've got to that stage its a car you have to keep or its money thrown down the drain.
ibought the mrs a cheap motor.but looking back at receipts for parts/work - its not so cheap anymore I couid of just

Unfortunatley it's luck of the draw.
I bought my car on 97k expecting 10-15k out of the clutch.
I'm now on 130k and been running an extra 80nm's for the last 10k and the clutch is still absolutley perfect
I'm off to hug a tree

with mine no matter what car it is.its been Brakepads/discs shoes. wheelbearings. cambelt/tensioners list goes on.
acar will only do so many miles before something wears out, ikeeps on top of mine and replace suspect parts before they fail
but icouid just let them run into the ground but is it worth it?
Re: 12 - 155, what?! How? Why?
i tend to fix mine as soon as suspect something is wrong rather than try to get longer out of it, i find if you let the jobs build up that's when you tend to give up on car and decide it's not worth spending the money on.

Jasper5 to the rescue then? I made it up there with a squealing clutch. Once you're on the A34 the route is completely grade separated until you get to the M6/M65 junction so no need to use the clutch at all! Take it steady and you should get well over 50mpg.
me & the wife treated ourselves to a 15k year old bmw 320d 7 years ago, after less than a year with F.B.M.W.S.H. it injested the swerlflaps & killed the engine

5k bill later (new bmw engine) we sold it, you find out after about the common problems & all cars have them

i had a 320d but fortunately ihad heard about the swirl flap issue and removed them as soon as i bought the car, it's a disgrace the bmw refused to accept there is any issue with them, also because there is so many of them dropping flaps the price of a second hand engine is ridiculously high .dirtydirtydiesel wrote:rwb, rwb wrote:Mine cost £4k, already spent £250 and now a DMF+clutch is on the cards. Interestingly my friends dad was given a 320D, after the trouble that things given him I am glad to have gone French... the Germans have a lot to learn about 'engineering' stuff to last

Problem is not particularly the clutch, the brakes are in such a bad way now, as soon as they have been dabbed a couple of times and have warmed up they absolutely stink and should there be someone cut me up on the motorway, or another hazard of sorts - I couldn't be sure I would be able to brake well enough to avoid... I only went to swindon last night and on my return, well the noise from the disks was horrendous and the smell, good grief..... Maybe I should look into getting it trailer ed up there? It'd be safer for sure... I really don't think it's in a suitable condition to drive up thererwb wrote:Mine cost £4k, already spent £250 and now a DMF+clutch is on the cards.
