Re: Tax Disc to be scrapped
Who is to Blame? •No one was to blame for the accident but it would never have happened if the other driver had been alert.
•I didn't think the speed limit applied after midnight.
•I had been shopping for plants all day and was on my way home. As I reached an intersection a hedge sprang up, obscuring my vision and I did not see the other car.
•The indirect cause of the accident was a little guy in a small car with a big mouth.
•I was going at about 70 or 80 mph when my girlfriend reached over and grabbed my testicles so I lost control.
•I was on the way to the doctor with rear end trouble when my universal joint gave way causing me to have an accident.
•On approach to the traffic lights the car in front suddenly broke.
•The accident was caused by me waving to the man I hit last week.
•Windshield broke. Cause unknown. Probably Voodoo.
•No witnesses would admit having seen the mishap until after it happened.
•I had been learning to drive with power steering. I turned the wheel to what I thought was enough and found myself in a different direction going the opposite way.
•The accident happened when the right front door of a car came round the corner without giving a signal.
•I had been driving for forty years when I fell asleep at the wheel and had an accident.
•I left for work this morning at 7am as usual when I collided straight into a bus. The bus was 5 miniutes early.
•An invisible car came out of nowhere, struck my car and vanished.
•I knew the dog was possessive about the car but I would not have asked her to drive it if I had thought there was any risk.
•The accident happened because I had one eye on the truck in front, one eye on the pedestrian, and the other on the car behind.
•I started to turn and it was at this point I noticed a camel and an elephant tethered at the verge. This distraction caused me to lose concentration and hit a bollard.

Re: Tax Disc to be scrapped
In the interest of 'balance' here, I surmise that the reason the Insurance industry gets bad press over the cost of policies is due, in part, to the greed of members of the public having minor accidents and claiming whiplash. Also the rise in fraudulent claims by unscrupulous gangs making you crash into the back of them.
About a year ago I saw the 'aftermath' of an extremely minor collision (think: less than 3mph) and sat in the drivers seat, being attended to by the Ambulance service, was an old Asian lady holding onto her poor neck. This virtually closed the carriageway. The damage to both vehicles could be described as 'superficial' at best and I just thought "you miserable claiming greedy bastard". What about people who are GENUINELY injured by drunk/drug drivers - where's all the money for them?

Dunno, the forum used to let you say 'f*cking' or 'f*cker' but not 'f*ck', the C-word is a definite no no (which is a shame), I don't think we can say 'w**ker' either.
Some forums like Barryboys have disabled the swear filter and I personally think it makes it quite funny (in the right context, and at the right time). Perhaps we're trying to appeal to a Family audience?

It's just always been like that, personally I'd have no problem with turning off the swear filter. You can say whatever you want on other sites so why should we be restrictive?
It's a car forum so we're unlikely to get many members under 17, and none of the regulars seem to be upset by gratuitous f*cking language, so the only issue may arise if you're reading it in the presence of others.

Re: Tax Disc to be scrapped
Because we need an appropriate adjective to describe insurance companies.lozz wrote:edit. how come the word Bastard don't get banned by forum swear filter?
Also, possibly because a bastard is a word which originally meant "one who is born to unmarried parents", which wasn't an actual insult until after it'd been in use for some time and then someone thought it an appropriate way to offend someone.
The insurance companies had willingly been compounding the crash-for-cash situation themselves by selling their member's details on to ambulance-chasing lawyers for a referral fee, without their knowledge, even in the event of an accident when no-one was injured. And even if the rates do go up as a result, the insurers are reaping the benefits of that anyway because it means they can charge people more money.
Scrapping referral fees is a good start, but the medical profession also needs to come up with a practical, demonstrable method of proving whiplash injury, or at least a proper definition of it so that an independent doctor (i.e. not your own GP and not one supplied by the insurer) can assess you and say "yes, you've got whiplash" or "no, you lying bastard".

Re: Tax Disc to be scrapped
I think that's step two. Step one is for the insurer being claimed against to require proof. At the moment it seems that if I claim for whiplash then it gets paid out without any proof being asked for at all. Thus the problem is the insurance companies not defending claims from third parties.highlander wrote:...demonstrable method of proving whiplash...
If you'd got a solicitor to defend you and he just said "we give in" and sent you a massive bill then that would be malpractice. But this appears to be exactly what insurance companies do.

There's probably a lot of ways to do it but it's probably easiest if you just select a letter or two out of the rude word in question and set the font colour to black. Shit.Welly wrote:You clever bastard, I fucking didn't know you could do that fucker by altering the text size.
