I can't see the database being that detailed, for all the cars on the road etc....

We have to remember that for 95% of the motoring public they will not even consider removing the dpf, rather they'd just pay whatever bill was thrown at them so the fact these things are glanced at during the MOT won't affect them at all. It is my understanding that a 'grow your own' DPF delete pipe (or by-pass) will fall foul of these new checks as the car should have a functioning DPF (or at least appear to have) and a by-pass shouts out that its been removed.

Will there be any sort of emissions test where they place a measuring device in the exhaust on diesel cars?

On a car like the 307s you can't really check for the DPF its buried under a mountain of heat shielding in between the engine and the radiator.

I think that all this will do is force people who have removed them to get dodgy MOT's which then COULD lead to unroad-worthy cars being used on the road.. Especially if said people use a guaranteed pass place..

I know someone who is having an MOT this evening (past 4pm to avoid VOSA) who has de-catted their car and the MOT inspector has said he will shove the emissions probe up another car..........

At the end of the day it is illegal to be driving a car that had a DPF and that you've removed, just as the cat... if the cops pulled you for what ever reason and realized there was no cat they could do ya for it........

Technically though, dpf removal is tax evasion. the road tax is charged by the amount of pollution. reduce that with a dpf and you pay less tax.

The vin wont tell weather the car has a dpf or not. When I worked for autog*ass it didn't matter what detail you had on a vehicle you still had to rely on the customer to provide you the spec on the windscreen or body glass and on some models you ended up with the wrong screen as much as 90% of the time.
Good to know its just a visual check. It will make the software removal more difficult to get done though:roll: better get my 307 done soon then

Do you know what though, I pity the day those money screwing big wigs actually have the power to plug into our ports and fail it on any errors being shown.......

Good point.

Well if a smoke test can't detect a removed dpf then surely the dpf doesn't make any difference

how very on-trend. Tax evasion for those of us who cant afford an accountant.

I guess the guidence will be any diesels registered after eurostage 4 came in must have a particular filter, (i believe this would be January 2005), and any which have been obviously deleted.

But saying that does euro stage 4 say you must have a particular filter or just reach the stricter 0.025 g/kg of particular matter?

Wouldn't a V6 still pass with a de-cat as you still have 2 pre-cats and you can you can say you still have cats?
In NZ, we have it so easy. DPF's aren't regulated and the law says in order to pass its WoF (MOT for NZ), the car has to have a cat if it was originally fitted with or something along those lines, but the law/wording is funny and I don't know anyone who has not passed a WOF, as no one really cares including the police. I think the law is there to make sure not everyone does it.

On a side note for V6 owners, do you know how I would get around to de-catting the pre-cats as they have oxy sensors after the cats and the car would throw a sh*t fit if i removed them.

They certainly would!
Over on the Coupe forum (commonly referred to as the other place on here :supafrisk: :cheesy: ) there's a topic about getting the post cat lambda data written out of the ecu software to prevent the P0420/P0430 codes being thrown up. Apparently it can be done....although as far as I know, nobody has had it done yet....

Would something like this work to confuse the sensor?

Never seen one of those before....
It'd be expensive though as there's two pre cats on the V6 J4S engine.
