Re: Hi, new person here
Hi and welcome,
Any 406 diesel will be relatively economical and nice to drive if you find one that has been reasonably looked after.
I've owned 2 early 1.9's and now own a remapped 2.2 2003 SE saloon, all are super comfy and a pleasure to sit in over long distances. The 2.2 is relatively thirsty but still goes further to the gallon than my sister in laws petrol Ka and I know which I'd rather drive
The 110 can be remapped to 130-140ish and gain a few MPG's while you're at it, the 2.2 can go to around 160-170 and is a very smooth engine with enough power to get the annoying Audi out of your boot.
If you find a nice example 406 HDI I would be prepared to place a small wager on the Clio never seeing the light of day again!
Bags of knowledge and advise freely available on here and a large serving of banter thrown in as well.

Re: Hi, new person here
Well I've found a 2000 executive with t&t 160k on clock and well maintained for 700, going to view on saturday and the bloke said if I want for the price he would slap another 12 months test on for me. So fingers crossed its a good 1.
I want a good set of standard alloys, do 15's look lost in the arches as looking at the 206 cc fan blade looking ones?
Also looking to lower only 35 to 40 mm just to take edge off

I know you like sportiness but I think once you've driven it you'll want to keep the sussy standard. I went from an Imported Honda Integra to the 406 (there was a brief period in a Mazda MX6 but I don't like to talk about it) and I was amazed at how easy the 406 took B roads at speed with little driver input (I would've been fighting with the Honda at lesser speeds).
The handling's not bad at all, sure you can't really hoon about like a loony but that's now what they're about. Wheels-wise the last few 406's off the line had 16" with 205 x 50 (5?) tyres and most seem to say they suited the ride/handling well. Mine had 15's with big squishy tyres but were equally ok.

They roll a lot but don't let go. It's amazing just how much you can throw them about. And they're so comfy -- don't spoil one of it's best bits!
The single biggest improvement to handling you can make is to add a stut brace, and they cost about a tenner (make sure you get the longer bolts included).

Always been 1 for doing a little lowering, just looking at 15's as got a set of yokohama tyres sat there brand new waiting to be slapped on some rims and thought 15's might look small in the estate arches lol
Re: Hi, new person here
That looks nice that like, the one im looking at on saturday is a silver 1, like the silver, dark blue or burgundy red.
This pic shows the car im going to view. Not keen on them wheels that are on it but I can change them.
