Re: Sump required for my 2.2Hdi
My mechanic has an air-powered vacuum kinda thing and he reckons you get more oil out than through draining by gravity, somehow. I suppose it's handy so you don't have to disturb the undertray who's fixings don't like being messed about with.

Re: Sump required for my 2.2Hdi
That's what I read somewhere but I really think it depends on the engine, it's no use whatsoever if the thing doesn't make it to the bottom of the dip stick tube, like mjb's found, and I can add the 1.6 HDi to that as the dipstick tube has 2 90 degree bends near the bottom (I seen one). This probably means the 2.2, err, too.

That's why the 1.6's dippy snaps off then?
Oil being Oil I guess under suction it just follows itself in a chain. To be fair I've done many oil changes in my yoof and always found there's more oil to come out even when you've let it drain for ages (especially if you've raised the car to get under, let it down again and get another cup full out).

Re: Sump required for my 2.2Hdi
I reckon so, that's what had happened to the car I was watching. Btw it had a pressed steel sump, I'm glad to see these ones are alloy because the mastic they used it bluddy tough and the tin sump pan ended up a little mangledWelly wrote:hat's why the 1.6's dippy snaps off then?

Sorry Kelv,GingerMagic wrote:DDD, thanks for the help - I will see how I get on. Helicoil on mine isn't possible because of the lump of something behind the hole so you can't get in to use the kit..
but yes you can there meant for use in blind holes, I use them all the time & have been doing so for the last twenty five years

As I said I did mine with the sump on the car, dificult but not impossible but with the sump off the car it's a peice of p**s
