What you could display instead of a Tax Disc

Since the Tax Discs are being scrapped in October I see no reason why you can't display old-type or novelty Tax Discs in place?

So are they going to bother to check to see if cars are taxed any more or what? Is some copper who's done something naughty going to to have to check whole carparks of cars or are they just going to rely on the number plate recognition doo-dats? Will they be mounting those everywhere too? What it really needs is some sort of certificate stuck in the window to prove that... oh, hold on

All ANPR and these roadside "tax checks" (which use number plate recognition anyway). I can see automated penalties for tax, insurance and MOT discrepancies in the not-too distant future, but then they'd have no-one to administer / chase them anyway so the sensible people like us would cough up and the illegal motorists would just ignore them...

As an aside, a friend of mine managed to score a ride-along in a traffic car with ANPR, He said the system was pinging every few seconds, if they'd stopped every car they wouldn't have got half a mile from the police station for the whole shift. Remind me why we work our arses off to pay for this stuff when so many people don't bother...

I think they will stop issuing Discs in October so I suppose any current Tax Disc on display after that time will be meaningless in the eyes of the new system.

Did you know that from Oct you can pay by monthly Direct Debit (I'm well up for that) so it might pay you to tax for 6 months next and then go on DD in Oct.

I thought a lot of vehicles have 'markers' on them regardless of Tax/MOT/Insewerance in that the vehicle/driver may have been in some sort of crime before, or has a warrant out on them that kinda thing??

(that might be Pub-based knowledge though).

Brilliant, because of course computers are never wrong and if ever they do make a mistake they're always very friendly about it and never hesitate to put it right.

And is it a crime if nothing is missing and nobody has been hurt?
It seems to me that using a computer to detect potential crimes is a lot easier than finding (let alone proving) people who have committed crimes. Useless buggers.

Just for using foglights or when it's inappropriate? incidentally I once had the lighting switch fail on a Squirrocco, it was at night and the choices were: forglights or no lights at all. I wasn't far from home but I got pulled, surprisingly they were ok about it when I explained.

Neither the yoyo or my HDi have bulb out warning systems (that I know of..), it's hard to tell when you're in town (I often check their reflections on the car in front) so I wouldn't like to get fined every time one went out and I didn't realise for a mile or two.

Btw this is all about using technology to check for some of the more common types of car crime, thus freeing up the police to do other things, like going on the dole...

The first thing that sprang to mind was that with the abolition of tax discs, I have no doubt there will be nothing for Police to check the screen for except that it is clear. So putting a comedic tax disc could lead to a prosecution for having an obstructed screen. (They do want their revenue, by whatever means possible.) As for the ANPR, I check all the websites that I am OK when renewing tax, insurance and MOT. A friend was kept at the side of the road for two and a half hours because he had bought insurance through a comparison website and didn't have a clue who he had signed up to. (Yes, I know, but I am sure we all know one similar )

I've never known mine as I always use comparison sites. In fact, I can't even tell you who I'm with next, even though I bought it just 2 days ago!
