Is there any code readers that you can buy to read codes on mondeo Tdci 53 plate
not sure if my car is obd2 compliant

Could be wrong here but I thought all cars had to be compliant going back to the late 90's.

Any generic reader should get basic info, tricky bit for me is usually tracking down the socket then use Google to interperet (spelling looks wrong, I apologise in advance) the codes.

For new cars, Jan 1st 2001 for petrol and Jan 1st 2004 for diesel
For new models, Jan 1st 2000 for petrol and Jan 1st 2003 for diesel

for a cheap handheld,
id recomend, Autel maxi scan, you can pick them up on ebay for peanuts, 10-20 quid,

they work on mondeos, it wont read abs/airbags mind,

thats what iuse and it worked on mondeo,

it puts a full fault description up rather than just a code, handy scanner to have in the tool box,
wont go to waste like most hand helds as you can use them on mainly any modern car, excl JAP stuff,

you can get the cheaper one from 9 quid onwards and itl work but it only gives codes,

Where is the socket to plug the reader into looked in handbook but it does,nt say anything

When looking for the diagnostic socket on any car the first place to look is either in or near the fuse box...the vast majority are located there.

On your model it should be to the right of the steering wheel where your right knee would be....reach under the dash and pull it down.

The later ones are behind a panel in the dash to the right of the steering wheel just inside the door.

Used the code reader it came up with p1000 manufacturers control what ever that means any body got any idea,s i was thinking ecu

Manufacturer control usually means that you need manufacturers dealer software or much more sophisticated software to read the code than an ordinary code reader.

p1000 is nowt to worry about,

normaly comes up when someones.. took a battery lead off or ecu has been unplugged,
or insome cases fuses being pulled, or even a diagnostic session being aborted part way through,

but dont take my word for it i know nothing,
