Re: mods?
Essential mods? On a coupé I'd call fitting citroën washer jets essential, and on an ES9J4 V6, there's a ring in the air pipe which needs removing before it jams the throttle fully open
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

No more unreliable than anything else on the road, in fact you'd have to buy something much older for that kind of reliability. They just don't make 'em like they used to applies to everything these days.

strut brace
It will go wrong.
It will be something silly.
And we'll probably have seen it before.
This is better than
It might go wrong.
The dealers will charge you a fortune.
They'll have never seen one before, and be unsure whether they've fixed it.

Hi Steve, the floods link is handy as we have 2 roads near here that flood quite a lot, I will be avoiding them in future. What is com 2000? My car is a 2002 51 plate 2.2 HDI, S, Coupe with 87k on the clock

Re: mods?
To be fair the 406 range is pretty tough, it is VERY rare for one to actually stop working on you, they kinda soldier on even when wounded!
Most frequent trouble we see on here is:
Crap Handbrake.
Rusty back plates (mostly on the very old 406's)
Occasional sill rust (mostly due to damage or botched repairs in the past)
Broken road springs.
Eggsauce system failures seem very common.
Occasional crazy electrics (water in the cabin).
Engine mounts (lead to all sorts of funny* things)
Dual Mass Flywheels wear but don't actually give in.
Air Con condensers (not sure if the coupe suffers?)
EGR valve leakage.
The 2.2 has a complex emissions system but that can be written out of the equation by remapping and removing the DPF.

Re: mods?
Dont sound too bad, most things seem an easy fix. I am lucky in that the car I got has no rust issues and seems to be well looked after, the only blemish is 2 small stone chips on the front of the bonnet. It was allegedly owned by a Ferarri mechanic.

Re: mods?
It will have a COM2000 stalk setup, but so did my last 406 and it was OK for the 4 years+ I had it. This one's been changed, but there's a guy up in Bradford that can fix them for about £25 and I have at least one spare.
The dpf will doubtless make its presence felt at some point, but getting rid is simple & cheap.
Other than that, not much to worry about and a lot of car for the money.
