I had the same with the 307 I recently looked at - PP2000 couldn't read the ECU. If you go to 'Test by ECU' then you have a drop down list of ECUs to choose from.

The 307 had a Sagem ECU but the default PP2000 setting was for a Bosch - hence no communication.

Rob, have a look at your ECU and there should be a label on the side giving the brand name and hopefully its on the PP2000 drop down list.

Well after a good few hundred miles it still hasn't had the smoke and death problem...

However, it now seems to come up with an antipollution fault regularly which puts it into limp mode... The difference with this is that the limp mode is still able to get you up to reasonable speeds to get off a motorway, etc. Whereas, when it was smoking and then limping it struggled to get over 25 mph.

Turn engine off and leave a short while and the antipollution fault disappears for a while. Makes journeys more interesting :)

I can try again to ID the fault if you like....sounds a bit like a MAF problem to me.

Handbrake cable appears to have snapped today... either that or just disconnected somewhere... I'll have a look underneath come weekend.

Still chugging along with the anti-pollution problem popping up every now and then, but car has done 2000 miles since Jasper had a look at it for me.

Thanks for the offer Jaspoer, but I've been offered a job starting in June with a company car, so the old tank only needs to last me until then. Not really worth spending the time on it now to be honest.
