Re: Time to change the Mondeo?
Still pulling my hair out. I don't think an older car is the option right now. Ideally I want to upgrade my car.
There's also the issue of the £130s of diesel in the tank so will have to drain that before I do anything.

If the mondys going it will be gone by Friday! I just need more convincing.
That said I was just driving home from work, put my foot down as you come too a dual carriageway, MASSIVE smoke come out the exhaust and now the turbo seems fine?

Re: Time to change the Mondeo?
I love my bemers, but the boot is tiny in the 3 let alone the 1 after the mondy it'll look like a shoe box
& as others have said you'll want a winter hack at the very least come the winter & the snow
.
I had a 330 coupe which I loved & the wife had a 320d, five years ago we were house bound for 5 days, we coundn't get either of them up our street
.
The next week I sold the 330 & bought a Audi A6 quattro
, great fun in the snow & the wet but only 25mpg with my right foot
.

Re: Time to change the Mondeo?
Have you driven either of the BMWs?
86k on that 318d - do the sums. By the time the lease ends - think of how many miles will be on it and the implications for residuals + running costs etc

I don't see why everyone gets hung up on mileage? My Mondeo is coming up for 140k and compared to the issues is seen some other people have on Mondeos with quater of the mileage mine has been great! Other than a belt tensioner this is the first time something really needs sorting.
I suspect il do 60k in the next 3 years. That means that the 3 series would be just where my Mondeo is now? And running costs on a MK4 Mondeo aren't far off that of a 3 series! They're bloody expensive motors to maintain!
That said, I think I'm going to keep the Mondeo. I'm going to see how the MOT goes on Saturday and then I'm going to replace the lower arms, steering rack and track rods & ends.
There's nothing really wrong with the steering rack but there's a very common fault where the cheap seals in the Ford rack disintegrate and block the filter in the reseviour starving the PAS pump. It can cost about £1200 for a new rack, pump and reseviour.
Replacing the steering rack for £188 I personally think would be a preventative maintenance measure that could save me a fortune!

You are right but unfortunately it is THE gauge by which the general car buying public go by.Bailes1992 wrote:[

Re: Time to change the Mondeo?
So currently sat in KwikFit. Car passed it's MOT and the service was done with MANN filters and Comma oil. I can't really fault them!
Car failed first time round on rear tyres which were all split on the inside sidewalls and a massive bulge on one of the front sidewalls. Can't believe I didn't notice them!
£540 for 4 new Pirelli P7s.

That's worrying, what tyres were they and how old? Must be antiques for the sidewalls to split...Bailes1992 wrote:Car failed first time round on rear tyres which were all split on the inside sidewalls and a massive bulge on one of the front sidewalls. Can't believe I didn't notice them!

Re: Time to change the Mondeo?
Is that 3 years since you bought them or since date of manufacture? *starts worrying about the already 18 month old winter Toyos he had to have put on the yoyo last year*

Re: Time to change the Mondeo?
Rear tyres were Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymeyric 2s. I had them fitted December 2012, hey had the EU labeling on them so they couldn't be that old! They had only just come out too if I remember rightly? One of them went out of round after just a few weeks, it always balenced up okay and never caused any vibrations.steve_earwig wrote:That's worrying, what tyres were they and how old? Re: Time to change the Mondeo?
Yes Steve, three years on the manufacturing date on the sidewall
, I am told that Toyo were aware of this problem & have since altered the compound
