New battery time! What type?

Post by fattail95 »

Hi guys,

The current battery on my 406 2.0HDi 110 is really weak. What is the biggest battery available for it? I heard it was an 096, looking at the Bosch S5:

780cca -- very impressive!

Will it fit?

Any particular reason why you want that battery ? Seems to be overkill.

If your current battery is weak, you'd notice a big difference just by fitting a decent 027 new battery.
Half to 2/3rds the price..?

Of the ECP batteries, this Exide one looks to me the best power/price/value....

Personally I would go 096 every time, but the price from Euro car parts is way over the top...the last 096 I bought cost me £53.

The 027 and other alternatives might be a good one to buy, but if you aren't bothered by the price 096 for me.

Have a look at the dealer price, they have been on offer recently!

Does the 096 fit? My battery tray seems to have 2 locating tabs at the bottom, and my current 027 battery sits perfectly between them. I would love the 096 and have got the money, but will it fit?

There are several places on ebay doing Bosch and Varta batteries at very reasonable prices including next day delivery. I have had a couple and been very pleased with them. Some advertisers give the battery weight which is very useful as it tells you how much lead you are getting for your money, some of the cheap batteries have less or thinner plates.

Excellent, I'll look into it.

Will an 096 fit?

If you return to the link in your original post, and scroll down a little, it shows the dimensions of the 096,
and you will be able to decide for yourself.

I refer you to my earlier post:

I'm aware the battery can physically fit, but I was wondering about the 2 locating tabs...
