607

Post by rwb »

Just done a PP2k session for a chap with an 01-plate 607.
First time I've been inside one and what a lovely place! It feels so much more solid than either the 406 or 407, and the materials feel so much nicer -- with the possible exception of the fake walnut.
He let me have a drive too :D It was a 2.2 136 complete with fap and recently topped up additive
It is smoooooth -- foot down and off it goes... thought I'd better ease off at 3500 although I did hit the 40 limit at 80 :supafrisk: So the crazy vac system (reservoir proudly displayed on the bulkhead) must be in order. It's not vicious like the 407 -- in fact it reminded me just how ferocious the 7 is -- but it didn't feel heavy or lethargic. Impressed :D

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

There was one on eBay a few months back - it sold for £220 and it was near Basingstoke.. :supafrisk:

I was tempted as it was a 6 speed manual box too, 120K miles..etc etc

Does it feel better because it is a bigger, heavier car?

I can remember doing a bit of pp2000 work on a 2.0 hdi one, it had almost every possible fault available but that was i believe due to the batteries running low which causes a range of fault codes.

But the build quality i have to agree, the interior of them is superbly put together, it really does have the "perceived quality" factor that you get in an audi everything feels solid especially the doors, i liked how the dash also got the cream treatment to match the cream leather, there was great armrests, and plenty of buttons, and more walnut than the 406, which i thought was fantastic.

The only thing i don't like about it is how it looks like from the outside especially the front, its not ugly, but its not a 406 either.

6 speed manual? That must have been a later one then with either a 2.0 136 (if they put that in them) or a 2.2 170. It must be pretty heavy compared to the 406, and I wouldn't want to drag one round on a 2.0 110.

Yeah, the front is a bit plain, but I love the curvy boot. They put some nice alloys on them too.

That's nice!

See what you mean about the 6-speed. I reckon that's the one that fits -- it's already attached to the same engine.

Caution advised.

It will fit, but the ratios probably won't suit. It's almost certainly got bigger wheels and the mph/1000 may have been made a tad lower to compensate for the extra weight.

Ooh that does look nice, I'm really not a huge fan of the exterior styling though.

Must be one of the last UK registered ones, they were withdrawn from sale in 2008 IIRC.

I reckon the 607 and the 307 marked the point at which Peugeot's designer started tipping over into the insanity of blobfish styling. If you look carefully you can see it starting to go wrong but on these it doesn't detract from the car's overall appearance to any extent. Fortunately things seem to be improving now, the 2008 is a guppy by comparison. All IMHO, naturally.

I'd love a 607, they look a quite nicely proportioned bus to me. I know it's a saloon but I reckon you could get quite a few bodies in that boot.
