Are all D9 mirrors the same?

Post by fattail95 »

Hi guys,

The driver side mirror of my semi-mux D9 HDi has been hit and needs replacing, could I use a mirror from a full-mux car? Are the connectors the same?

Many thanks!

You need to be aware that there are two versions of mirror assemblies out there.
One (pre mux) needs a fold module to dish out a timed amount of power to the fold motor. In these mirrors, the fold motor gets to the end of it's travel and stalls....the fold module then cuts power. I think it gives about 7 seconds worth of juice in each direction.
The other assembly (mux) does not need this module as it cuts it's own power when end of travel is reached.

So in your case, fitting a mux mirror to a non mux car, you'd be ok. It won't work the other way round though as the motor would be continuously under power at the end of travel.

Nearside mirror changes are more problematic due to the fact that the outside temp sender wiring alters across pre mux / mux and gets incorporated into the 13 pin connector.

Some details of all this here, but you'll need to register first I'm afraid.

If your mirrors don't have the fold function, forget all of the above! :cheesy:

Also, the very late 406s ( 2003/2004 ) have a shiny black mirror surround, the earlier ones are matt black.

No folding mirrors for me! So no need to worry about whether its a full mux mirror then! :D
