Camera for a 13 year old
I know a few of you on here like your photography so just wondered what would be a decent start off camera for a 13 year old girl for under £50... She wants the best that kind of money can buy and I'm useless so get your thinking caps on guys.

I'm guessing for that price you want a compact, and to be honest there won't be a lot to choose between them. My advice would be to scour the sales and see what bargains come up!

Re: Camera for a 13 year old
We bought a Nikon Cool Pix but I think it was more than 50 sheets, but if you can find one that's been literally slashed in price then I think it's a fair camera. I know less about digi cameras than I do about music but all I knows is that previous disposable battery-powered cameras ate batteries but this 'ere Nikon just plugs in for a charge and lasts for bloody ages it seems which gets a thumbs-up from where I'm sitting.
Picters are sharp too. <there's my expert* camera know-how again.

Re: Camera for a 13 year old
what do you expect her to take photo's of ??
anything specific or just general stuff??
Ive just bought Mrs t a compact Nikon from Argos and although its still in its box(bought today) theres a vast choice around.
Don't get too hung up on the megapixel count, its not that important

As already said a rechargeable battery is a must and also agree about the megapixel count one you go over 8mp your resolution is better than 35mm film use to be. Also too many megapixels can make the photos worse especially with the cheaper compacts as the more pixels you cram on a sensor the more noise they generate making the picture look less detailed than a lower megapixel camera.
I would suggest a canon they may seem lower spec for the price than others but the build quality is excellent and they pretty bomb proof. I still have a canon I bought in 2005 it was the cheapest model at the time and it still works despite being a kids toy for the last 5years we've been through half a dozen since we stopped using it and none have lasted.
While I remember another thing to look for is shutter lag it can be quite bad on some of the cheaper cameras so if you can have a play before you buy that's always helpful.

Have a look on ebay. I bought a Fuji Finepix F30 off there several years ago when they were fairly new, it was the 'Which?' best buy at the time and they were about £200, I got mine for £100 on ebay and its been brilliant.
Have a look at this one, there are more on there.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fuji-FinePix- ... 1c425e5f68

Seems like a fair trade to me
Oops, sorry
As above, megapixels are pretty meaningless, I'd have thought as simple as possible, point and click, rechargeable. There are loads of camera review sites out there.

Oops, sorry

That seems pretty good value, although the reviews say the battery doesn't last long. Buy a spare?PeterN wrote:Have a look at this one, there are more on there.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fuji-FinePix- ... 1c425e5f68

Re: Camera for a 13 year old
Slightly different camera but mine still has the original battery and only needs charging about twice a year but I don't take all that many photo's, I think mine says it will take about 500 pictures on a charge.
Mine said it was 'refurbished' but I don't believe it, looked brand new to me, I think they are surplus stock, new camera's come out so frequently I think they must sometimes have some of the previous model left.

Apparently she wants to take pics of stuff... Pretty stuff.

Quite like the look of the Fuji finepix and it looks like Steve's done more research than me about the battery... I've always used rechargables with my old camera and it eats them so I am worried about battery life with hers... Might be worth a punt though?
The one Welly mentioned looks cool too.
